Psalms72

Of Solomon. God, give your judgments to a king, and your righteousness to a king’s son.

Endow the King with Your Justice

May he judge your people with righteousness, and your afflicted ones with judgment.

May the mountains bear peace for the people, and the hills, in righteousness.

May he judge the afflicted of the people, save the sons of the needy, and crush the oppressor.

May they fear you while the sun endures, and before the moon, generation of generations.

May he come down like rain on mown grass, like showers watering the earth.

In his days may the righteous flourish, and abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.

And may he rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

Before him let desert dwellers kneel, and his enemies lick the dust.

May the kings of Tarshish and the coastlands bring back a gift; may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring tribute near.

And may all kings bow down to him; may all nations serve him.

For he rescues the needy who cries for help, and the afflicted who has no helper.

He has pity on the weak and the needy, and the souls of the needy he saves.

From oppression and from violence he redeems their soul, and their blood is precious in his eyes.

And may he live, and may gold of Sheba be given to him; and may prayer be made for him continually; all the day may he be blessed.

May there be an abundance of grain in the land, on the top of the mountains; may its fruit rustle like Lebanon, and may they blossom from the city like the grass of the earth.

May his name be forever; before the sun may his name flourish; and may they bless themselves in him; may all nations call him happy.

Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who alone does wonders.

And blessed be his glorious name forever, and let all the earth be filled with his glory. Amen and amen.

The prayers of David, the son of Jesse, are finished.
