A psalm of David. For a memorial. LORD, do not rebuke me in your wrath, and do not discipline me in your burning anger.
Do Not Rebuke Me in Your Anger
For your arrows have sunk into me, and your hand has come down upon me.
There is no soundness in my flesh because of your indignation; there is no peace in my bones because of my sin.
For my iniquities have passed over my head; like a heavy burden they are too heavy for me.
My wounds stink and fester because of my folly.
I am bent, I am bowed down utterly; all the day I have walked about in gloom.
For my loins are full of burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh.
I am numb and crushed utterly; I have roared from the groaning of my heart.
Lord, all my longing is before you, and my sighing is not hidden from you.
My heart throbs; my strength has left me; and the light of my eyes — even they are not with me.
My lovers and my friends stand away from my plague, and those near me have stood far off.
And those who seek my life have laid snares; and those who seek my harm have spoken destructions, and all the day they murmur deceits.
But I am like a deaf man — I do not hear; and like a mute man who does not open his mouth.
And I have become like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth there are no rebukes.
For in you, LORD, I have hoped; you will answer, Lord my God.
For I said, “Lest they rejoice over me; when my foot slips, they magnify themselves against me.”
For I am ready to stumble, and my pain is before me continually.
For I declare my iniquity; I am anxious because of my sin.
But my enemies are alive and mighty, and many are those who hate me falsely.
And those who repay evil for good accuse me, because I pursue good.
Do not forsake me, LORD; my God, do not be far from me.
Hurry to my help, Lord, my salvation.
