The Second Passover

And the LORD spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the first month of the second year after their going out of the land of Egypt, saying,

“Let the sons of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time.

On the fourteenth day of this month, between the two evenings, you shall keep it at its appointed time; according to all its statutes and according to all its judgments you shall keep it.”

And Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, to keep the Passover.

And they kept the Passover in the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, between the two evenings, in the wilderness of Sinai; according to all that the LORD had commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel did.

But there were men who were unclean by a dead human soul, and could not keep the Passover on that day; and they came near before Moses and before Aaron on that day.

And those men said to him, “We are unclean by a dead human soul. Why should we be kept back from bringing near the offering of the LORD at its appointed time in the midst of the sons of Israel?”

And Moses said to them, “Stand here, and let me hear what the LORD commands concerning you.”

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Speak to the sons of Israel, saying: Any man of you or of your generations who is unclean by a dead soul, or is on a far journey, shall still keep the Passover to the LORD.

In the second month, on the fourteenth day, between the two evenings, they shall keep it; with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it.

They shall leave none of it until morning, and no bone of it shall they break; according to all the statute of the Passover they shall keep it.

But the man who is clean, and is not on a journey, and refrains from keeping the Passover — that soul shall be cut off from her people; because he did not bring near the offering of the LORD at its appointed time, that man shall bear his sin.

And when a sojourner sojourns with you and would keep the Passover to the LORD, according to the statute of the Passover and according to its judgment, so he shall do. One statute there shall be for you, for the sojourner and for the native of the land alike.”

The Cloud above the Tabernacle

And on the day the Dwelling was set up, the cloud covered the Dwelling, the tent of the testimony; and in the evening it was over the Dwelling like the appearance of fire, until morning.

So it was continually: the cloud covered it, and the appearance of fire by night.

And whenever the cloud lifted from over the tent, then after that the sons of Israel set out; and in the place where the cloud settled, there the sons of Israel camped.

At the mouth of the LORD the sons of Israel set out, and at the mouth of the LORD they camped; all the days that the cloud settled over the Dwelling, they camped.

And when the cloud lingered over the Dwelling many days, the sons of Israel kept the charge of the LORD and did not set out.

And sometimes the cloud was a few days over the Dwelling; at the mouth of the LORD they camped, and at the mouth of the LORD they set out.

And sometimes the cloud was there from evening until morning, and the cloud lifted in the morning, and they set out; or a day and a night, and the cloud lifted, and they set out.

Or two days, or a month, or many days — when the cloud lingered over the Dwelling, settling on it, the sons of Israel camped and did not set out; and when it lifted, they set out.

At the mouth of the LORD they camped, and at the mouth of the LORD they set out. They kept the charge of the LORD, at the mouth of the LORD by the hand of Moses.
