The Lantern

Matthew7

Judging Others

Do not judge, that you may not be judged;

for with whatever verdict you judge, you will be judged; and with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you.

And why do you look at the splinter that is in your brother’s eye, and do not notice the beam in your own eye?

Or how will you say to your brother, ‘Permit that I may cast out the splinter from your eye’ — and behold, the beam is in your eye?

Hypocrite! First cast out the beam from your eye, and then you will see clearly to cast out the splinter from your brother’s eye.

Do not give what is holy to the dogs, nor cast your pearls before the pigs, otherwise they will trample upon them with their feet, and having turned, they may tear you to pieces.

Ask, Seek, Knock

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

For everyone who is asking receives, and the one seeking finds, and to the one knocking it will be opened.

Or which man is there of you whom his son will ask for bread — surely he will not give him a stone?

Or he will also ask for a fish — surely he will not give him a serpent?

If therefore you yourselves, being evil, know to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in the heavens give good things to those asking Him?

All things therefore, as much as you shall desire that men shall enact for you, so also do you yourselves enact for them; for this is the law and the Prophets.

The Narrow Gate

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad the way which is leading to destruction, and many are those entering through it.

How small is the gate and compressed the way which is leading to life, and few are those finding it!

A Tree and Its Fruit

Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.

By their fruits you will know them. Surely they do not gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?

Thus every good tree produces good fruits, but the bad tree produces bad fruits.

A good tree is not able to produce bad fruits, nor is a bad tree able to produce good fruits.

Every tree not producing good fruit is cut down and thrown into fire.

Then surely by their fruits you will know them.

Not everyone who is saying to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of My Father who is in the heavens.

Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’

And then I will declare to them that, ‘I never knew you. Depart from Me, you who are working lawlessness.’

The House on the Rock

Everyone therefore whoever hears these words of Mine and does them, he will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock.

And the rain came down, and the torrents came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.

And everyone who is hearing these words of Mine and not doing them, he will be likened to a foolish man who built his house upon the sand.

And the rain came down, and the torrents came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house; and it fell, and great was its fall.”

The Authority of Jesus

And it came to pass, when Jesus finished these words, the crowds were astonished at His teaching;

for He was teaching them as having authority, and not as their scribes.
