The Lantern

Matthew8

The Leper’s Prayer

And when He was coming down from the mountain, great crowds followed Him.

And behold, a leper, having come near, was worshiping Him, saying, “Lord, if You shall be willing, You are able to cleanse me.”

And having stretched out the hand, He touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

And Jesus says to him, “See that you tell no one; but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony to them.”

The Faith of the Centurion

And when He was entering into Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, imploring Him

and saying, “Lord, my servant has been laid in the house paralyzed, being grievously tormented.”

And He says to him, “I myself, having come, will heal him.”

And the centurion, answering, was saying, “Lord, I am not worthy that You may come under my roof; but only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.

For I myself also am a man under authority, having soldiers under myself; and I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Enact this,’ and he enacts it.”

And having heard this, Jesus marvelled and said to those following, “Amen I say to you, with no one in Israel have I found such great faith.

And I say to you that many will come from east and west and will recline with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens;

but the sons of the kingdom will be cast out into the outer darkness. There will be the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.”

And Jesus said to the centurion, “Go; as you have believed, let it be done to you.” And his servant was healed in that hour.

Jesus Heals at Peter’s House

And Jesus, having come to Peter’s house, saw his mother-in-law lain down and fevering;

and He touched her hand, and the fever left her; and she arose and was ministering to Him.

And when evening had come, they brought to Him many being demonised; and He cast out the spirits by a word, and healed all those being sick,

so that what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, saying, “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our diseases.”

The Cost of Discipleship

Now Jesus, having seen a crowd around Him, commanded to depart to the other side.

And one scribe, having come to Him, said to Him, “Teacher, I will follow You wherever You shall go.”

And Jesus says to him, “The foxes have holes and the birds of the air nests, but the Son of Man has no place where He may lay the head.”

And another of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, allow me first to go and to bury my father.”

But Jesus speaks to him, “Follow Me, and leave the dead to bury their own dead.”

Jesus Calms the Storm

And when He had climbed into the boat, His disciples followed Him.

And behold, a great storm arose in the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but He Himself was sleeping.

And having come to Him, they awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save! We are perishing!”

And He says to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then, having arisen, He rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

And the men marvelled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?”

The Demons and the Pigs

And when He was coming to the other side, to the region of the Gadarenes, two being demonised met Him, coming forth out of the tombs, extremely violent, so that no one was able to pass through that way.

And behold, they cried out, saying, “What to us and to You, Son of God? Are You come here before the time to torment us?”

Now there was far off from them a herd of many pigs feeding.

And the demons were begging Him, saying, “If You cast us out, send us away into the herd of pigs.”

And He said to them, “Go.” And having gone out, they went away into the pigs; and behold, all the herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea and perished in the waters.

And those feeding them fled; and having gone away into the city, they related everything, including the matter of those being demonised.

And behold, all the city went out to meet Jesus; and having seen Him, they begged Him that He might depart from their region.
