John13

Jesus Washes His Disciples’ Feet

Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus knowing that His hour came that He may depart out of this world to the Father, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.

And supper taking place, the devil already having put into the heart that Judas son of Simon Iscariot may betray Him,

knowing that the Father has given all things to Him into the hands, and that He came forth from God and is going to God,

He rises from the supper and lays aside the garments. And having taken a towel, He girded Himself.

After that He pours water into the basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples and to wipe them with the towel with which He was having girded Himself.

He comes then to Simon Peter, who says to Him, “Lord, do You Yourself wash my feet?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “What I myself do, you yourself do not know presently, but you will know after these things.”

Peter says to Him, “You shall certainly not wash my feet to the age.” Jesus answered him, “Unless I shall wash you, you have no part with Me.”

Simon Peter says to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head.”

Jesus says to him, “The one having bathed himself has no need except to wash the feet, but is wholly clean; and you yourselves are clean, but not all.”

For He knew the one who was betraying Him; on account of this He said that “Not all of you are clean.”

When therefore He had washed their feet and taken His garments and reclined again, He said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?

You yourselves call Me: the Teacher, and the Lord; and rightly you say, for I am.

If therefore I myself washed your feet, the Lord and the Teacher, you yourselves also ought to wash one another’s feet;

for a pattern I gave you, that even as I myself did to you, you yourselves also may do.

Amen, amen, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one having sent him.

If you know these things, happy are you if you shall do them.

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal

Not about all of you do I speak; I myself know whom I chose; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled: ‘The one eating My bread lifted up his heel against Me myself.’

From now I am telling you, before it comes to pass, so that you may believe when it may happen that I myself am He.

Amen, amen, I say to you, the one receiving any I shall send receives Me myself; now the one receiving Me myself receives the One having sent Me.”

Having said these things, Jesus was troubled in the spirit and He testified and said, “Amen, amen, I say to you that one of you will betray Me.”

The disciples were looking upon one another, being uncertain of whom He is speaking.

There was reclining one of His disciples in the bosom of Jesus, whom Jesus was loving;

Simon Peter motions therefore to him, to ask who it would be about whom He is speaking.

Having leaned then thus on the breast of Jesus, he says to Him, “Lord, who is it?”

Jesus answers, “It is he to whom I myself will dip the morsel and will give to him.” Having dipped then the morsel, He takes it and gives it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot.

And after the morsel, then Satan entered into him. Jesus says therefore to him, “What you enact, enact quicker.”

Now no one of those reclining knew to what He spoke this to him.

For some were thinking, since Judas had the money bag, that Jesus is saying to him, “Buy what things we have need of for the feast,” or that he may give something to the poor.

Having received therefore the morsel, he went out immediately; now it was night.

Love One Another

When therefore he had gone out, Jesus says, “Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in Him.

If God is glorified in Him, God also will glorify Him in Himself, and immediately will glorify Him.

Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek Me, and even as I said to the Jews that ‘Where I myself go, you yourselves are not able to come,’ also to you I say now.

A new commandment I give to you, that you may love one another; even as I have loved you, so also you yourselves may love one another.

By this all will know that you are disciples to Me, if you shall have love among one another.”

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

Simon Peter says to Him, “Lord, where go You?” Jesus answered him, “Where I go, you are not able to follow Me now; you will follow, however, afterward.”

Peter says to Him, “Lord, why am I not able to follow You presently? My life for You I will lay down.”

Jesus answers, “Your life for Me will you lay down? Amen, amen, I say to you, the rooster may certainly not crow until that you will deny Me three times.”
