John12

Mary Anoints Jesus

Therefore Jesus, six days before the Passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised out from the dead.

They made therefore a supper for Him there, and Martha was serving; and Lazarus was one of those reclining with Him.

Therefore Mary, having taken a litra of fragrant oil of pure nard of great price, anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; now the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.

But Judas the Iscariot, one of His disciples, who is being about to betray Him, says,

“Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”

He said this, however, not because he was caring for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money bag he was pilfering that being put into it.

Jesus said therefore, “Leave her alone, so that for the day of My burial she may keep it;

for the poor you always have with yourselves, but Me myself you do not always have.”

The Plot to Kill Lazarus

A great crowd of the Jews knew therefore that He is there, and they came not because of Jesus only, but that they may also see Lazarus, whom He had raised out from the dead.

But the chief priests took counsel that they may kill Lazarus also,

because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and were believing in Jesus.

The Triumphal Entry

On the next day the great crowd, the one having come to the feast, having heard that Jesus is coming into Jerusalem,

took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and were shouting: “Hosanna! Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord! And the King of Israel!”

Then Jesus, having found a young donkey, He sat upon it, even as it is written:

“Do not fear, daughter of Zion; behold, your King comes, sitting on a colt of a donkey.”

These things His disciples did not know from the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him, and these things they had done to Him.

The crowd therefore which is being with Him was bearing witness, when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him out from the dead.

On account of this the crowd also met with Him, because they heard of His having done this sign.

Therefore the Pharisees said among themselves, “You see that you gain nothing? Behold, the world has gone after Him.”

Jesus Predicts His Death

Now there were certain Greeks among those coming up that they may worship at the feast.

These therefore came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and they were asking him, saying, “Sir, we desire to see Jesus.”

Philip comes and tells Andrew; Andrew and Philip come, and they tell Jesus.

And Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man may be glorified.

Amen, amen, I say to you, unless the grain of wheat, having fallen into the ground, shall die, it abides alone; but if it shall die, it bears much fruit.

The one loving his life loses it, and the one hating his life in this world will keep it to life eternal.

If anyone shall serve Me myself, he should follow Me myself; and where I myself am, there also My servant will be. If anyone shall serve Me myself, the Father will honor him.

Now My soul has been troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But on account of this I came to this hour.

Father, glorify Your name.” A voice came therefore from heaven: “Both I have glorified it and again I will glorify it.”

Therefore the crowd which is standing and having heard it, it was saying thunder to have been. Others were saying, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

Jesus answered and said: “Not because of Me myself has this voice come, but because of you.

Now is the judgment of this world; now the prince of this world will be cast out,

and I myself, if I shall be lifted up from the earth, will draw all to Myself.”

Now this He was saying, signifying by what death He was about to die.

The crowd answered Him therefore, “We ourselves heard from the law that the Christ abides to the age, and how say you yourself that it behooves the Son of Man to be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?”

Jesus said therefore to them, “Yet a little while the light is among you. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness may not grasp you. And the one walking in the darkness does not know where he is going.

While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and having gone away He was hidden from them.

Belief and Unbelief

But so many signs of His having been done before them, they were not believing in Him,

so that the word of Isaiah the prophet may be fulfilled that he said: “Lord, who has believed our report? And the arm of the Lord, to whom has it been revealed?”

Because of this they were not able to believe, for again Isaiah said:

“He has blinded their eyes and has hardened their heart, that they may not see with the eyes and may understand with the heart and may turn, and I will heal them.”

These things Isaiah said because he saw His glory and spoke concerning Him.

Nevertheless indeed even of the rulers many believed in Him, but on account of the Pharisees they were not confessing, so that they may not be put out of the synagogue;

for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.

Then Jesus cried out and said, “The one believing in Me myself, he believes not in Me myself but in the One having sent Me;

and the one beholding Me myself, he beholds the One having sent Me.

I myself have come a light into the world, so that everyone who is believing in Me myself may not abide in the darkness.

And if anyone shall hear My declarations and shall not keep them, I myself do not judge him; for I came not that I may judge the world, but that I may save the world.

The one rejecting Me myself and not receiving My declarations has one judging him: the word which I spoke, that one will judge him in the last day.

For I myself spoke not from Myself, but the Father having sent Me, He Himself has given Me a commandment what I may say and what I may speak.

And I know that His commandment is life eternal. What therefore I myself speak, even as the Father has said to Me, so I speak.”
