II Thessalonians3

Request for Prayer

Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run and be glorified, just as it is also with you,

and that we may be delivered from perverse and evil men; for the faith is not of all.

But the Lord is faithful, who will strengthen you and keep you from evil.

And we have confidence in the Lord as to you, that you both are doing and will do the things we command.

And may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the endurance of Christ.

A Warning against Idleness

Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother walking idly and not according to the tradition that they received from us.

For you yourselves know how it is necessary to imitate us, because we were not idle among you,

nor did we eat bread from anyone without payment, but in labor and hardship we were working night and day, so as not to be a burden to any of you —

not because we do not have the right, but that we might offer ourselves as an example to you, for you to imitate us.

For even when we were with you, this we commanded you: that if anyone is not willing to work, neither let him eat.

For we hear that some among you are walking idly, working at nothing but being busybodies.

Now such ones we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ, that working with quietness they eat their own bread.

But you, brothers, do not grow weary in doing good.

And if anyone does not obey our word through this letter, take note of that one, not to mix with him, so that he may be ashamed.

And yet do not count him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

Signature and Final Greetings

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all.

The greeting in my own hand — of Paul — which is a sign in every letter; in this manner I write.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
