Genesis14

The War of the Kings

And it happened in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim,

that they made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela — that is, Zoar.

All these joined together in the valley of Siddim — that is, the Salt Sea.

Twelve years they had served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled.

And in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer came, and the kings who were with him, and they struck the Rephaim in Ashteroth-karnaim, and the Zuzim in Ham, and the Emim in Shaveh-kiriathaim,

and the Horite in their hill country of Seir, as far as El-paran, which is by the wilderness.

And they turned back and came to En-mishpat — that is, Kadesh — and struck the whole country of the Amalekite, and also the Amorite who lived in Hazazon-tamar.

And the king of Sodom went out, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela — that is, Zoar — and they drew up for battle against them in the valley of Siddim:

against Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of Goiim, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar — four kings against the five.

Abram Rescues Lot

Now the valley of Siddim was pit after pit of tar; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell there, and those who were left fled to the hill country.

And they took all the possessions of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food, and went their way.

And they took Lot, the son of Abram’s brother, and his possessions, and went — for he was living in Sodom.

And one who escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living by the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol and brother of Aner — and they were bound by covenant with Abram.

And Abram heard that his brother had been taken captive, and he mustered his trained men, born in his house — three hundred and eighteen — and pursued as far as Dan.

And he divided his forces against them by night, he and his servants, and struck them; and he pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus.

And he brought back all the possessions, and he also brought back Lot his brother and his possessions, and the women too, and the people.

Melchizedek Blesses Abram

And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from striking Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, at the valley of Shaveh — that is, the King’s Valley.

And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine — and he was priest to God Most High.

And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, possessor of heavens and earth.

And blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your foes into your hand.” And he gave him a tenth of everything.

And the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the souls, and take the possessions for yourself.”

And Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have lifted my hand to the LORD, God Most High, possessor of heavens and earth:

not a thread, not a sandal strap — I will take nothing of all that is yours, so that you will not say, ‘I made Abram rich.’

Nothing for me — only what the young men have eaten, and the share of the men who went with me: Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre. Let them take their share.”
