Genesis13

Abram and Lot Part Ways

And Abram went up from Egypt — he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him — into the Negev.

And Abram was very heavy with livestock, with silver, and with gold.

And he went by his stages from the Negev as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai,

to the place of the altar he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

And Lot also, who went with Abram, had sheep and cattle and tents.

And the land could not bear them living together, for their possessions were many, and they were not able to live together.

And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. And the Canaanite and the Perizzite were then living in the land.

And Abram said to Lot, “Please, let there be no quarrel between me and you, or between my herdsmen and your herdsmen — for we are men who are brothers.

Is not the whole land before you? Separate, please, from me. If you go left, I will go right; and if you go right, I will go left.”

Lot Proceeds toward Sodom

And Lot lifted up his eyes and saw the whole plain of the Jordan, that all of it was well watered — before the LORD ruined Sodom and Gomorrah — like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, going toward Zoar.

And Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan, and Lot journeyed east; and they separated, each from his brother.

Abram lived in the land of Canaan, and Lot lived in the cities of the plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom.

And the men of Sodom were evil, and great sinners against the LORD.

God Renews the Promise to Abram

And the LORD said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him, “Lift up your eyes now, and look from the place where you are — northward and southward and eastward and westward.

For all the land that you see, to you I will give it, and to your seed forever.

And I will make your seed like the dust of the earth — so that if anyone could count the dust of the earth, your seed also could be counted.

Rise, walk through the land, its length and its width — for to you I will give it.”

And Abram moved his tent, and came and lived by the oaks of Mamre, which are at Hebron; and there he built an altar to the LORD.
