Son of man, set your face toward the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them,
and say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys: See, I myself am bringing a sword against you, and I will destroy your high places.
And your altars will be desolate and your incense altars broken, and I will make your slain fall before your idols.
And I will set the corpses of the sons of Israel before their idols, and I will disperse your bones around your altars.
In all your dwellings the cities will be ruined and the high places made desolate, so that your altars are ruined and bear guilt, and your idols are broken and brought to an end, and your incense altars cut down, and your works wiped away.
And the slain will fall in your midst, and you will know that I am the LORD.
A Remnant to Be Blessed
But I will leave a remnant, so that some of you have escapees of the sword among the nations, when you are dispersed through the lands.
And your escapees will remember me among the nations where they are taken captive, how I was broken by their whoring heart that turned aside from me, and by their eyes that whore after their idols. And they will loathe themselves to their own faces for the evils they did, for all their abominations.
And they will know that I am the LORD; not for nothing did I speak of doing this evil to them.
Thus says the Lord GOD: Strike with your palm and stamp with your foot and say: Alas for all the evil abominations of the house of Israel! — for by the sword, by the famine and by the pestilence they will fall.
The far one will die by the pestilence, and the near one will fall by the sword, and the one remaining and besieged will die by the famine; and I will finish my wrath on them.
And you will know that I am the LORD, when their slain are among their idols, around their altars, on every high hill, on all the tops of the mountains, and under every green tree and under every leafy oak — the place where they gave a soothing aroma to all their idols.
And I will stretch out my hand against them and make the land a desolation and a waste, from the wilderness to Diblah, in all their dwellings; and they will know that I am the LORD.
