Then they toldDavid,saying,Look, the Philistinesfightagainst Keilah,and they robthe threshing floors.
Therefore Davidinquiredof the LORD,saying,Shall I goand strikethese Philistines?And the LORDsaidto David,Go,and strikethe Philistines,and saveKeilah.
And David’smensaidto him, Look, we be afraidhere in Judah:how much more then if we cometo Keilahagainst the armiesof the Philistines?
Then Davidinquiredof the LORDyet again.And the LORDansweredhim and said,Arise,go downto Keilah;for I will deliverthe Philistinesinto your hand.
So Davidand his menwentto Keilah,and foughtwith the Philistines,and brought awaytheir cattle,and struckthem with a greatslaughter.So Davidsavedthe inhabitantsof Keilah.
And it happened, when Abiatharthe sonof Ahimelechfledto Davidto Keilah,that he came downwith an ephodin his hand.
Saul Pursues David
And it was toldSaulthat Davidhad cometo Keilah.And Saulsaid,Godhas deliveredhim into my hand;for he is shut in,by enteringinto a townthat has gatesand bars.
And Saul called all the people together to war, to go down to Keilah, to besiege David and his men.
And Davidknewthat Saulsecretly practisedmischiefagainst him; and he saidto Abiatharthe priest,Bring herethe ephod.
Then saidDavid,O LORDGodof Israel,your servanthas certainlyheardthat Saulseeksto cometo Keilah,to destroythe cityfor my sake.
Will the menof Keilahdeliver me upinto his hand?will Saulcome down,as your servanthas heard?O LORDGodof Israel,I beg you, tellyour servant.And the LORDsaid,He will come down.
Then saidDavid,Will the menof Keilahdeliverme and my meninto the handof Saul?And the LORDsaid,They will deliver you up.
Then Davidand his men,which were about sixhundred,aroseand departedout of Keilah,and wentwhereverthey could go.And it was toldSaulthat Davidwas escapedfrom Keilah;and he forbareto go forth.
And Davidremainedin the wildernessin strong holds,and remainedin a mountainin the wildernessof Ziph.And Saulsoughthim every day,but Goddeliveredhim not into his hand.
And Davidsawthat Saulhad come outto seekhis life:and Davidwas in the wildernessof Ziphin a wood.
And JonathanSaul’ssonarose,and wentto Davidinto the wood,and strengthenedhis handin God.
And he saidto him, Fearnot: for the handof Saulmy fathershall not findyou; and you shall be kingover Israel,and I shall be nextto you; and that also Saulmy fatherknows.
And they twomadea covenantbeforethe LORD:and Davidremainedin the wood,and Jonathanwentto his house.
Then came upthe Ziphitesto Saulto Gibeah,saying,Does not Davidhidehimself with us in strong holdsin the wood,in the hillof Hachilah,which is on the southof Jeshimon?
Now therefore, O king,come downaccording to all the desireof your soulto come down;and our part shall be to deliverhim into the king’shand.
And Saulsaid,Blessedbe of the LORD;for you have compassionon me.
Go,I pray you, prepareyet, and knowand seehis placewhere his hauntis, and who has seenhim there: for it is toldme that he deals verysubtilly.
Seetherefore, and take knowledgeof all the lurking placeswhere he hideshimself, and come you againto me with the certainty,and I will gowith you: and it shall happen, if he bein the land,that I will searchhim out throughout all the thousandsof Judah.
And they arose,and wentto ZiphbeforeSaul:but Davidand his menwere in the wildernessof Maon,in the plainon the southof Jeshimon.
Saulalso and his menwentto seekhim. And they toldDavid:therefore he came downinto a rock,and remainedin the wildernessof Maon.And when Saulheardthat, he pursuedafterDavidin the wildernessof Maon.
And Saul went on this side of the mountain, and David and his men on that side of the mountain: and David made haste to get away for fear of Saul; for Saul and his men surrounded David and his men round about to take them.
But there camea messengerto Saul,saying,Hasteyou, and come;for the Philistineshave invadedthe land.
Therefore Saul returned from pursuing after David, and went against the Philistines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammahlekoth.
And David went up from there, and dwelt in strong holds at En-gedi.
