And Samuelsaidto all Israel,Look, I have listenedto your voicein all that you saidto me, and have madea kingover you.
And now, look, the kingwalksbeforeyou: and I am oldand grayheaded;and indeed, my sonsare with you: and I have walkedbeforeyou from my childhoodto this day.
Look, here I am: witnessagainst me before the LORD,and before his anointed:whose oxhave I taken?or whose donkeyhave I taken?or whom have I defrauded?whom have I oppressed?or of whose handhave I received any bribeto blindmy eyeswith it? and I will restoreit you.
And they said,You have not defraudedus, nor oppressedus, neither have you takenoughtof any man’shand.
And he saidto them, The LORDis witnessagainst you, and his anointedis witnessthis day, that you have not foundoughtin my hand. And they answered,He is witness.
And Samuel said to the people, It is the LORD that advanced Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
Now therefore stand still, that I may reasonwith you beforethe LORDof all the righteous actsof the LORD,which he didto you and to your fathers.
When Jacobhad comeinto Egypt, and your fatherscriedto the LORD,then the LORDsentMosesand Aaron, which brought forthyour fathersout of Egypt, and made them dwellin this place.
And when they forgotthe LORDtheir God,he soldthem into the handof Sisera, captainof the hostof Hazor, and into the handof the Philistines, and into the handof the kingof Moab, and they foughtagainst them.
And they criedto the LORD,and said,We have sinned, because we have forsakenthe LORD,and have servedthe Baalsand Ashtaroth:but now deliverus out of the handof our enemies, and we will serveyou.
And the LORDsentJerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and deliveredyou out of the handof your enemieson every side, and you dwelledsafe.
And when you sawthat Nahashthe kingof the childrenof Ammoncameagainst you, you saidto me, No; but a kingshall reignover us: when the LORDyour Godwas your king.
Now therefore look the kingwhom you have chosen, and whom you have desired!and indeed, the LORDhas seta kingover you.
If you will fearthe LORD,and servehim, and obeyhis voice, and not rebelagainst the commandmentof the LORD,then shall both you and also the kingthat reignsover you continue followingthe LORDyour God:
But if you will not obeythe voiceof the LORD,but rebelagainst the commandmentof the LORD,then shall the handof the LORDbe against you, as it was against your fathers.
Now thereforestandand seethis greatthing, which the LORDwill dobefore your eyes.
Is it not wheatharvesttoday?I will callto the LORD,and he shall sendthunderand rain;that you may perceiveand seethat your wickednessis great, which you have donein the sightof the LORD,in askingyou a king.
So Samuelcalledto the LORD;and the LORDsentthunderand rainthat day:and all the peoplegreatlyfearedthe LORDand Samuel.
And all the peoplesaidto Samuel,Prayfor your servantsto the LORDyour God,that we dienot: for we have addedto all our sinsthis evil,to askus a king.
And Samuelsaidto the people,Fearnot: you have doneall this wickedness:yet turn not asidefrom followingthe LORD,but servethe LORDwith all your heart;
And turn you not aside:for then should you go aftervainthings, which cannot profitnor deliver;for they are vain.
For the LORDwill not forsakehis peoplefor his greatname’ssake: because it has pleasedthe LORDto makeyou his people.
Moreover as for me,God forbidthat I should sinagainst the LORDin ceasingto prayfor you:but I will teachyou the goodand the rightway:
Only fearthe LORD,and servehim in truthwith all your heart:for considerhow great things he has donefor you.
But if you shall stilldo wickedly, you shall be consumed, both you and your king.
