And it happened,that when Isaacwas old,and his eyeswere dim,so that he could not see,he calledEsauhis eldestson,and saidto him, My son:and he saidto him, Look, here am I.
And he said,Look now, I am old,I knownot the dayof my death:
Now therefore take,I pray you, your weapons,your quiverand your bow,and go outto the field,and takemesomevenison;
And makeme savory food,such asI love,and bringitto me, that I may eat;that my soulmay blessyou beforeI die.
And Rebekahheardwhen Isaacspoketo Esauhis son.And Esauwentto the fieldto huntforvenison,andto bringit.
And Rebekahspoketo Jacobher son,saying,Look, I heardyour fatherspeakto Esauyour brother,saying,
Bringme venison,and makeme savory food,that I may eat,and blessyou beforethe LORDbeforemy death.
Now therefore, my son,obeymy voiceaccording to that whichI commandyou.
Go now to the flock, and fetch me from there two good young goats; and I will make them savory food for your father, such as he loves:
And you shall bringitto your father,that he may eat,and thathe may blessyou beforehis death.
And Jacobsaidto Rebekahhis mother,Look, Esaumy brotherisa hairyman,and Iama smoothman:
My fatherperhaps will feelme, and I shall seemto him as a deceiver;and I shall bringa curseupon me, and not a blessing.
And his mothersaidto him, Upon mebeyour curse,my son:only obeymy voice,and gofetchme them.
And he went,and fetched,and broughtthemto his mother:and his mothermadesavory food,such as his fatherloved.
And Rebekahtookfineapparelof her eldestsonEsau,whichwerewith her in the house,and put them uponJacobher youngerson:
And she put the skins of the young goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
And she gavethe savory foodand the bread,which she had prepared,into the handof her sonJacob.
And he came to his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who are you, my son?
And Jacobsaidto his father,IamEsauyour firstborn;I have doneaccording as you bademe: arise,I pray you, sitand eatof my venison,that your soulmay blessme.
And Isaacsaidto his son,Howis itthat you have founditso quickly,my son?And he said,Because the LORDyour Godbroughtitto me.
And Isaacsaidto Jacob,Come near,I pray you, that I may feelyou, my son,whether youbemy verysonEsauor not.
And Jacobwent nearto Isaachis father;and he felthim, and said,The voiceisJacob’svoice,but the handsarethe handsof Esau.
And he discernedhim not, because his handswere hairy,as his brotherEsau’shands:so he blessedhim.
And he said, Are you my very son Esau? And he said, I am.
And he said,Bringitnearto me, and I will eatof my son’svenison,that my soulmay blessyou. And he broughtitnearto him, and he did eat:and he broughthim wine,and he drank.
And his fatherIsaacsaidto him, Come nearnow, and kissme, my son.
And he came near,and kissedhim: and he smelledthe smellof his apparel,and blessedhim, and said,See,the smellof my sonisas the smellof a fieldwhich the LORDhas blessed:
Therefore Godgiveyou of the dewof heaven,and the fatnessof the earth,and plentyof grainand wine:
Let peopleserveyou, and nationsbow downto you: belordover your brothers,and let your mother’ssonsbow downto you: cursedbeevery one that cursesyou, and blessedbehe that blessesyou.
Esau’s Lost Hope
And it happened, as soon as Isaachad made an endof blessingJacob,and Jacobwas yetscarcegone outfrom the presenceof Isaachis father,that Esauhis brothercame infrom his hunting.
And he also had madesavory food,and brought itto his father,and saidto his father,Let my fatherarise,and eatof his son’svenison,that your soulmay blessme.
And Isaac his father said to him, Who are you? And he said, I am your son, your firstborn Esau.
And Isaactrembledveryexceedingly,and said,Who? whereishe that has takenvenison,and broughtitme, and I have eatenof all before you came,and have blessedhim? yes,andhe shall be blessed.
And when Esauheardthe wordsof his father,he criedwith a greatand exceedingbittercry,and saidto his father,Blessme,evenme also, O my father.
And he said,Your brothercamewith subtilty,and has taken awayyour blessing.
And he said,Is not he rightlynamedJacob?for he has supplanted methesetwo times:he took awaymy birthright;and indeed, now he has taken awaymy blessing.And he said,Have you not reserveda blessingfor me?
And Isaacansweredand saidto Esau,Look, I have madehim your lord,and all his brothershave I givento him for servants;and with grainand winehave I sustainedhim: and what shall I donowto you, my son?
And Esausaidto his father,Have you but oneblessing,my father?blessme,evenme also, O my father.And Esaulifted uphis voice,and wept.
And Isaachis fatheransweredand saidto him, Look, your dwellingshall be the fatnessof the earth,and of the dewof heavenfrom above;
And by your swordshall you live,and shall serveyour brother;and it shall happen when you shall have the dominion,that you shall breakhis yokefrom off your neck.
And EsauhatedJacobbecauseof the blessingwith whichhis fatherblessed him:and Esausaidin his heart,The daysof mourningfor my fatherare at hand;then will I slaymy brotherJacob.
And these wordsof Esauher eldersonwere toldto Rebekah:and she sentand calledJacobher youngerson,and saidto him, Look, your brotherEsau,as touching you, does comforthimself,purposingto killyou.
Now therefore, my son,obeymy voice;and arise,fleeyou to Labanmy brotherto Haran;
And staywith him a fewdays,untilyour brother’sfuryturn away;
Until your brother’sangerturn awayfrom you, and he forgetthatwhich you have doneto him: then I will send,and fetchyou from there: whyshould I be deprivedalso of you bothin oneday?
And Rebekahsaidto Isaac,I am wearyof my lifebecauseof the daughtersof Heth:if Jacobtakea wifeof the daughtersof Heth,such as thesewhich areof the daughtersof the land,what goodshall my lifedo me?
