And the LORDappearedto him, and said,Go not downinto Egypt;dwellin the landwhich I shall tellyou of:
Sojournin this land,and I will be with you, and will blessyou; for to you, and to your seed,I will giveall thesecountries,and I will performthe oathwhich I sworeto Abrahamyour father;
And I will makeyour seedto multiplyas the starsof heaven,and will giveto your seedall thesecountries;and in your seedshall all the nationsof the earthbe blessed;
Becausethat Abrahamobeyedmy voice,and keptmy charge,my commandments,my statutes,and my laws.
Isaac Deceives Abimelech
And Isaacdweltin Gerar:
And the menof the placeaskedhimof his wife;and he said,Sheismy sister:for he fearedto say,She ismy wife;lest,he said, the menof the placeshould killme for Rebekah;because shewasfairto look upon.
And it happened, when he had been there a longtime,that Abimelechkingof the Philistineslooked outata window,and saw,and indeed, Isaacwassportingwith Rebekahhis wife.
And AbimelechcalledIsaac,and said,Look, of a suretysheisyour wife:and how saidyou, Sheismy sister?And Isaacsaidto him, Because I said,Lest I diefor her.
And Abimelechsaid,Whatisthis you have doneto us? oneof the peoplemight lightlyhave lienwith your wife,and you should have broughtguiltinessupon us.
And Abimelechchargedallhispeople,saying,He that touchesthis manor his wifeshall surelybe put to death.
Isaac’s Prosperity
Then Isaacsowedin that land,and receivedin the same yeara hundredfold:and the LORDblessedhim.
And the mangrew great,and wentforward,and grewuntil he becameverygreat:
For he had possessionof flocks,and possessionof herds,and great storeof servants:and the Philistinesenviedhim.
For all the wellswhich his father’sservantshad dugin the daysof Abrahamhis father,the Philistineshad stoppedthem, and filledthem with earth.
And Abimelechsaidto Isaac,Gofrom us; for you are muchmightierthan we.
And Isaacdepartedfrom there, and pitched his tentin the valleyof Gerar,and dweltthere.
And Isaacdugagainthe wellsof water,which they had dugin the daysof Abrahamhis father;for the Philistineshad stoppedthem afterthe deathof Abraham:and he calledtheir namesafter the namesby whichhis fatherhad calledthem.
And Isaac’sservantsdugin the valley,and foundthere a wellof springingwater.
And the herdmenof Gerardid strivewith Isaac’sherdmen,saying,The waterisours: and he calledthe nameof the wellEsek;because they strovewith him.
And they duganotherwell,and strovefor that also: and he calledthe name of itSitnah.
And he removedfrom there, and duganotherwell;and for that they strovenot: and he calledthe name of itRehoboth;and he said,For nowthe LORDhas made roomfor us, and we shall be fruitfulin the land.
And he went upfrom there to Beersheba.
And the LORDappearedto him the same night,and said,Iamthe Godof Abrahamyour father:fearnot, for Iamwithyou, and will blessyou, and multiplyyour seedfor my servantAbraham’ssake.
And he builtan altarthere, and calledupon the nameof the LORD,and pitchedhis tentthere: and there Isaac’sservantsduga well.
Isaac’s Covenant with Abimelech
Then Abimelechwentto him from Gerar,and Ahuzzathone of his friends,and Phicholthe chief captainof his army.
And Isaac said to them, Why come you to me, seeing you hate me, and have sent me away from you?
And they said,We sawcertainlythat the LORDwas with you: and we said,Let there be now an oathbetweenus,evenbetweenus and you, and let us makea covenantwith you;
That you will do us no hurt, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace: you are now the blessed of the LORD.
And he madethem a feast,and they did eatand drink.
And they rose up earlyin the morning,and sworeoneto another:and Isaacsent them away,and they departedfrom him in peace.
And it happened the same day,that Isaac’sservantscame,and toldhim concerningthe wellwhich they had dug,and saidto him, We have foundwater.
And he calledit Shebah:therefore the nameof the cityisBeershebato this day.

And Esauwas fortyyearsoldwhen he tookto wifeJudiththe daughterof Beerithe Hittite,and Bashemaththe daughterof Elonthe Hittite:
