Psalms107

Thanksgiving for Deliverance

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his loyal love is forever.

Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the foe,

and gathered from the lands — from east and from west, from north and from the sea.

They wandered in the wilderness, in a wasteland of a way; they did not find a city to dwell in.

Hungry and also thirsty, their soul fainted within them.

And they cried out to the LORD in their distress; from their straits he rescued them.

And he led them by a straight way, to go to a city to dwell in.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for his wonders to the sons of man.

For he has satisfied the longing soul, and the hungry soul he has filled with good.

Those who sat in darkness and the shadow of death, prisoners of affliction and iron,

because they rebelled against the sayings of the Mighty One and spurned the counsel of the Most High.

And he humbled their heart with trouble; they stumbled, and there was no helper.

And they cried out to the LORD in their distress; from their straits he saved them.

He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and tore off their bonds.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for his wonders to the sons of man.

For he shattered doors of bronze, and cut through bars of iron.

Fools, because of the way of their transgression and because of their iniquities, were afflicted.

Their soul abhorred all food, and they reached the gates of death.

And they cried out to the LORD in their distress; from their straits he saved them.

He sent his word and healed them, and delivered them from their pits.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for his wonders to the sons of man.

And let them sacrifice sacrifices of thanksgiving, and recount his works with a ringing cry.

Those who go down to the sea in ships, doing business in many waters —

they themselves saw the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep.

And he spoke and raised up a stormy wind, and it lifted its waves.

They go up to the heavens; they go down to the deeps; their soul melts in the evil.

They reel and stagger like a drunkard, and all their wisdom is swallowed up.

And they cried out to the LORD in their distress, and he brought them out of their straits.

He raised the storm to a whisper, and their waves were hushed.

And they were glad because they were quiet, and he guided them to the haven of their desire.

Let them give thanks to the LORD for his loyal love, and for his wonders to the sons of man.

And let them exalt him in the assembly of the people, and praise him in the seat of the elders.

He turns rivers into a wilderness, and springs of water into thirsty ground,

a land of fruit into a salt waste, because of the evil of those who dwell in it.

He turns a wilderness into a pool of water, and a dry land into springs of water.

And he settles the hungry there, and they establish a city to dwell in.

And they sow fields and plant vineyards, and they make fruit of produce.

And he blesses them and they multiply greatly, and he does not let their cattle diminish.

And they are diminished and bowed down through oppression, evil, and sorrow.

He pours contempt on nobles, and makes them wander in a wasteland with no way.

But he sets the needy on high from affliction, and makes families like a flock.

The upright see and are glad, and all injustice shuts its mouth.

Who is wise? Let him keep these things and consider the acts of loyal love of the LORD.
