Micah1

Judgment to Come

The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morashtite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem.

Hear, peoples, all of them; give attention, earth and its fullness; and let the Lord GOD be a witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.

For see, the LORD is coming out from his place, and he will come down and tread on the high places of the earth.

And the mountains will melt under him and the valleys will split open, like wax before the fire, like waters poured down a slope.

For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel. What is the transgression of Jacob? Is it not Samaria? And what are the high places of Judah? Are they not Jerusalem?

And I will make Samaria into a heap of the field, into plantings of a vineyard; and I will pour her stones down into the valley, and I will uncover her foundations.

And all her carved images will be beaten to pieces, and all her fees will be burned in the fire, and all her idols I will make a desolation; for from the fee of a whore she assembled them, and to the fee of a whore they will return.

Weeping and Mourning

For this I will lament and howl; I will go stripped and naked. I will make lamentation like the jackals, and mourning like the ostriches.

For her wounds are incurable; for it has come as far as Judah, it has reached to the gate of my people, to Jerusalem.

In Gath do not tell it; do not weep at all. In Beth-le-Aphrah roll yourself in the dust.

Pass on, inhabitant of Shaphir, in nakedness and shame. The inhabitant of Zaanan has not come out; the lamentation of Beth-ezel will take from you its standing place.

For the inhabitant of Maroth waits in pain for good, because evil has come down from the LORD to the gate of Jerusalem.

Bind the chariot to the team, inhabitant of Lachish. She was the beginning of sin to the daughter of Zion, for in you were found the transgressions of Israel.

Therefore you will give parting gifts to Moresheth-gath. The houses of Achzib will be a deception to the kings of Israel.

Still I will bring the dispossessor to you, inhabitant of Mareshah; as far as Adullam the glory of Israel will come.

Make yourself bald and shear yourself for the children of your luxury; make your baldness wide as the eagle, for they have gone from you into exile.
