The Lantern

Mark3

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath

And He entered again into the synagogue, and there was a man there having a withered hand;

and they were watching Him, whether He will heal him on the Sabbath, in order that they may accuse Him.

And He says to the man having the withered hand, “Arise into the midst.”

And He says to them, “Is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil? To save life or to kill?” But they were silent.

And having looked around on them with anger, being grieved at the hardness of their heart, He says to the man, “Stretch out the hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

And the Pharisees, having gone out, immediately were giving counsel with the Herodians against Him, how they may destroy Him.

Jesus Heals the Multitudes

And Jesus with His disciples withdrew to the sea, and a great multitude from Galilee followed, and from Judea

and from Jerusalem and from Idumea and beyond the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon. A great multitude, having heard as much as He was doing, came to Him.

And He spoke to His disciples that a boat may wait upon Him on account of the crowd, that they may not press upon Him.

For He healed many, so as for as many as had diseases to press upon Him that they may touch Him.

And the unclean spirits, whenever they were seeing Him, were falling down before Him and crying out, saying that “You are the Son of God.”

And He was rebuking them much, so that they may not make Him known.

The Twelve Apostles

And He goes up on the mountain and calls near those whom He Himself was wanting, and they went to Him.

And He appointed twelve, whom He also called apostles, that they may be with Him and that He may send them to preach

and to have authority to cast out the demons.

And He appointed the Twelve. And He added the name Peter to Simon,

and James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James — and He added to them the names Boanerges, which is Sons of Thunder —

and Andrew and Philip and Bartholomew and Matthew and Thomas and James the son of Alphaeus and Thaddaeus and Simon the Zealot,

and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed Him. And He comes into a house.

A House Divided

And a crowd comes together again, so that they were not able even to eat bread.

And those belonging to Him, having heard of it, went out to seize Him; for they were saying that He is crazy.

And the scribes, those having come down from Jerusalem, were saying that He has Beelzebul, and that by the prince of the demons He casts out the demons.

And having called them to Him, He was speaking to them in parables: “How is Satan able to cast out Satan?

And if a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom is not able to stand;

and if a house is divided against itself, that house will not be able to stand;

and if Satan has risen up against himself and was divided, he is not able to stand, but is coming to an end.

But no one is able, having entered into the house of the strong man, to plunder his goods unless he first binds the strong man; and then he will plunder his house.

The Unpardonable Sin

Amen I say to you that all the sins will be forgiven to the sons of men, and the blasphemies, as many as they shall have blasphemed;

but whoever may blaspheme against the Holy Spirit has no forgiveness to the age, but is guilty of eternal sin” —

for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.”

Jesus’ Mother and Brothers

And His mother and His brothers come. And standing outside, they sent to Him, calling Him.

And a crowd was sitting around Him. And they speak to Him, “Behold, Your mother and Your brothers and Your sisters are outside seeking You.”

And answering them He says, “Who are My mother and My brothers?”

And having looked around on those who were sitting surrounding Him, He says, “Behold My mother and My brothers!

For whoever may do the will of God, he is My brother and sister and mother.”
