Mark2

Jesus Heals a Paralytic

And He was entering again into Capernaum after some days, and it was heard that He is in the house.

And many were gathered together, so that there was no more space, not even at the door; and He was speaking the word to them.

And they come, bringing to Him a paralytic being carried by four.

And not being able to bring him to Him on account of the crowd, they removed the roof where He was, and having broken it up, they let down the pallet where the paralytic was lying.

And Jesus, having seen their faith, says to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Now some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts:

“Why does this man speak thus? He blasphemes! Who is able to forgive sins except one — God?”

And immediately Jesus, having known in His spirit that they are reasoning thus within themselves, speaks to them, “Why do you reason these things in your hearts?

Which is easier — to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Arise and take up your mat and walk’?

But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority to forgive sins on the earth” — He says to the paralytic —

“To you I say, arise, take up your mat and go to your home.”

And he arose, and immediately, having taken up the mat, he went forth before all, so as for all to be amazed and to glorify God, saying that “Never did we see it thus.”

Jesus Calls Levi

And He went forth again beside the sea, and all the crowd was coming to Him, and He was teaching them.

And passing on, He saw Levi the son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax booth, and He says to him, “Follow Me.” And having arisen, he followed Him.

And it came to pass that He was reclining in his house, and many tax collectors and sinners were reclining with Jesus and with His disciples; for there were many, and they were following Him.

And the scribes of the Pharisees, having seen that He eats with the sinners and tax collectors, were saying to His disciples, “He eats with the tax collectors and sinners?”

And Jesus, having heard, says to them, “Those being strong have no need of a physician, but those being sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Questions about Fasting

And the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting. And they come and they say to Him, “Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?”

And Jesus said to them, “Are the sons of the bridechamber able to fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long a time as they have the bridegroom with them, they are not able to fast.

But the days will come when the bridegroom may have been taken away from them, and then they will fast in that day.

The Patches and the Wineskins

No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on old clothing; otherwise the patch tears away from it — the new from the old — and a worse tear takes place.

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the wine will burst the wineskins, and the wine is destroyed, and the wineskins — instead, new wine into new wineskins.”

The Lord of the Sabbath

And it came to pass that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way plucking the heads of grain.

And the Pharisees were saying to Him, “Behold, why do they on the Sabbath that which is not lawful?”

And He says to them, “Did you never read what David did when he had need and hungered, he himself and those with him —

how he entered into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest and ate the loaves of the presentation, which it is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and he gave even to those being with him?”

And He was saying to them, “The Sabbath was made on account of man, and not man on account of the Sabbath.

So then the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
