Luke22

The Plot to Kill Jesus

Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread was drawing near, which is being named Passover.

And the chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they may execute him; for they were afraid of the people.

Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus

Then Satan entered into Judas who is being called Iscariot, being of the number of the Twelve.

And having gone away, he spoke with the chief priests and captains how he may betray him to them.

And they rejoiced and they agreed with him to give money.

And he promised, and was seeking opportunity to betray him to them apart from a crowd.

Preparing the Passover

Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which it was necessary for the Passover lamb to be sacrificed.

And he sent Peter and John, having said, “Having gone, prepare for us the Passover, that we may eat it.”

And they said to him, “Where do you want that we may prepare?”

And he said to them, “Behold, when you are entering into the city, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house into which he enters;

and you will say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says to you: Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’

And he will show you a large upper room furnished; there prepare.”

Then having gone, they found it even as he had said to them, and they prepared the Passover.

The Last Supper

And when the hour was come, he reclined, and the apostles with him.

And he said to them, “With desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I to suffer;

for I say to you that I shall certainly not eat it until when it may be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.”

And having received the cup, having given thanks, he said, “Take this and divide it among yourselves;

for I say to you that I shall certainly not drink from now of the fruit of the vine until that time the kingdom of God may come.”

And having taken the bread, having given thanks, he broke it and he gave to them, saying, “This is my body which is given for you; perform this in my remembrance.”

And the cup likewise after the eating, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is being poured out for you.

But behold, the hand of the one betraying me is with me on the table.

For the Son of Man indeed goes according to that determined; but woe to that man through whom he is betrayed.”

And they themselves began to question among themselves who then it would be of them who is about to do this.

Who Is the Greatest?

Then there was also a dispute among them, which of them is thought to be the greatest.

And he said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles rule over them, and those exercising authority over them are called benefactors.

However, you shall not be thus. Instead, the greater among you, he should become as the younger, and the one leading as the one serving.

For who is greater, the one reclining or the one serving? Surely the one reclining? However, I myself am in the midst of you as the One serving.

Now you yourselves are those having remained with me in my trials.

And I myself appoint to you a kingdom, even as my Father appointed to me,

so that you may eat and may drink at my table in my kingdom, and will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Jesus Predicts Peter’s Denial

Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have all of you, to sift you like the wheat;

however, I myself begged for you, that your faith may not fail. And you yourself, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”

And he said to him, “Lord, with you I am ready to go both to prison and to death.”

And he said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will certainly not crow today until three times you may deny to know me.”

And he said to them, “When I sent you without purse and bag and sandals, did you lack anything?” And they said, “No thing.”

Then he said to them, “But now the one having a purse, he should take it, likewise also a bag; and the one not having, he should sell his cloak and he should buy a sword.

For I say to you that this which was written it behooves to be accomplished in me myself: ‘And he was reckoned with the lawless.’ For indeed the thing concerning me have an end.”

And they said, “Lord, behold, here are two swords.” And he said to them, “It is enough.”

Jesus Prays on the Mount of Olives

And having gone forth, he went according to the custom to the Mount of Olives; then the disciples also followed him.

Then having come to the place, he said to them, “Pray not to enter into temptation.”

And he himself withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, and having fallen on the knees he was praying,

saying, “Father, if you are willing, take away this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours should be done.”

[Then an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him.]

[And having been in agony, he was praying more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down upon the ground.]

And having risen up from the prayer, having come to the disciples, he found them sleeping from the grief,

and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Having risen up, pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

The Betrayal of Jesus

While still when he is speaking, behold a crowd, and the one named Judas, one of the Twelve, was going before them; and he drew near to Jesus to kiss him.

Then Jesus said to him, “Judas, with a kiss are you betraying the Son of Man?”

Then having seen what will be, those around him said, “Lord, if will we strike with the sword?”

And a certain one of them struck the servant of the high priest and cut off his right ear.

Now answering, Jesus said, “Allow only as far as this!” And having touched the ear, he healed him.

Then Jesus said to those having come out against him, chief priests and captains of the temple and elders, “As against a robber have you come out with swords and clubs?

Every day, me being with you in the temple, you did not stretch out the hands against me myself; but this is your hour, and the power of the darkness.”

Peter Denies Jesus

Then having seized him, they led him away and brought into the home of the high priest. And Peter was following afar off.

Then they having kindled around a fire in the midst of the courtyard, and when having sat down together, Peter was sitting midst of them.

Then a certain servant girl, having seen him sitting by the light and having looked intently on him, she said, “This one also was with him.”

But he denied, saying, “I do not know him, woman.”

And after a little, another, having seen him, was saying, “You yourself also are of them.” But Peter was saying, “Man, I am not.”

And when about one hour was elapsing, a certain other was strongly affirming it, saying, “Of a truth this one also was with him; for indeed he is a Galilean.”

However, Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you say.” And immediately, while he is speaking, a rooster crowed.

And having turned, the Lord looked at Peter; and Peter remembered the declaration of the Lord, how he had said to him that, “Before the rooster crowing today, you will deny me three times.”

And having gone forth outside, he wept bitterly.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus

And the men who are holding him were mocking him, beating him.

And having blindfolded him, they were questioning, saying, “Prophesy, who is the one having struck you?”

And blaspheming, they were saying many other things to him.

Jesus before the Sanhedrin

And when it became day, the elderhood of the people were gathered together, both chief priests and scribes, and they led him away into their council,

saying, “If you yourself are the Christ, tell us.” Then he said to them, “If I shall tell you, you shall certainly not believe;

then if I shall ask you, you shall certainly not answer.

But from now on the Son of Man will be sitting at the right hand of the power of God.”

Then they all said, “You yourself then are the Son of God?” And he was saying to them, “You yourselves say that I myself am.”

And they said, “What need have we any more of witness? For we ourselves heard it from his mouth.”
