Leviticus22

Restrictions against the Unclean

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Speak to Aaron and to his sons, that they treat with care the holy things of the sons of Israel that they consecrate to me, and not profane my holy name. I am the LORD.

Say to them: Throughout your generations, any man of all your seed who comes near the holy things that the sons of Israel consecrate to the LORD while his uncleanness is on him — that soul shall be cut off from before my face. I am the LORD.

Any man of the seed of Aaron who has tzaraath or a discharge shall not eat of the holy things until he is clean. And whoever touches anything unclean by a dead soul, or a man from whom an emission of seed goes out,

or a man who touches any swarming thing by which he becomes unclean, or a person by whom he becomes unclean, whatever his uncleanness —

the soul who touches such shall be unclean until the evening, and shall not eat of the holy things unless he has bathed his flesh in water.

And when the sun has set, he shall be clean; and afterward he may eat of the holy things, for it is his bread.

What dies of itself or is torn by beasts he shall not eat, becoming unclean by it. I am the LORD.

And they shall keep my charge, so that they do not bear sin for it and die by it when they profane it. I am the LORD, who makes them holy.

And no stranger shall eat what is holy; a tenant of a priest, or a hired worker, shall not eat what is holy.

But when a priest buys a soul as a purchase of his silver, that one may eat of it; and those born in his house — they may eat of his bread.

And when a priest’s daughter belongs to a stranger, she shall not eat of the contribution of the holy things.

But when a priest’s daughter becomes a widow or is driven out, and has no seed, and returns to her father’s house as in her youth, she may eat of her father’s bread; but no stranger shall eat of it.

And when a man eats what is holy unintentionally, he shall add a fifth of it to it, and give the holy thing to the priest.

And they shall not profane the holy things of the sons of Israel, which they lift up to the LORD,

and so load on them the iniquity of guilt by their eating their holy things — for I am the LORD, who makes them holy.”

Worthy Offerings

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“Speak to Aaron and to his sons, and to all the sons of Israel, and say to them: Any man of the house of Israel, or of the sojourners in Israel, who brings near his offering — for any of their vows or any of their freewill offerings that they bring near to the LORD as a burnt offering —

for your acceptance it shall be a male without blemish, of the cattle, of the sheep, or of the goats.

Anything in which there is a defect you shall not bring near, for it will not be accepted for you.

And when a man brings near a sacrifice of peace offerings to the LORD, to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering, from the herd or from the flock — it shall be without blemish, for acceptance; no defect shall be in it.

The blind, or the broken, or the maimed, or one with a wart, or with a scar, or a rash — these you shall not bring near to the LORD, and you shall not put any of them on the altar as a fire offering to the LORD.

An ox or a lamb deformed or stunted you may make a freewill offering, but for a vow it will not be accepted.

And one bruised, or crushed, or torn, or cut you shall not bring near to the LORD; and in your land you shall not do such things.

And from the hand of a foreigner’s son you shall not bring near the bread of your God from any of these — for their corruption is in them; a defect is in them. They will not be accepted for you.”

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“When an ox or a lamb or a goat is born, it shall be seven days under its mother; and from the eighth day onward it shall be accepted as an offering, a fire offering to the LORD.

And an ox or a lamb — it and its young you shall not slaughter on one day.

And when you sacrifice a sacrifice of thanksgiving to the LORD, you shall sacrifice it for your acceptance.

On that day it shall be eaten; you shall leave none of it until morning. I am the LORD.

And you shall keep my commandments, and do them. I am the LORD.

And you shall not profane my holy name, and I will be made holy in the midst of the sons of Israel. I am the LORD, who makes you holy,

who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD.”
