Leviticus14

Cleansing from Skin Diseases

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“This shall be the instruction for the one with tzaraath on the day of his cleansing. He shall be brought to the priest,

and the priest shall go out to outside the camp. And the priest shall look, and look — if the mark of tzaraath has been healed in the one who had it,

then the priest shall command, and for the one being cleansed there shall be taken two living clean birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet yarn, and hyssop.

And the priest shall command, and the one bird shall be slaughtered over an earthen vessel, over living water.

As for the living bird — he shall take it, with the cedar wood and the scarlet yarn and the hyssop, and dip them, with the living bird, in the blood of the bird slaughtered over the living water.

And he shall sprinkle it seven times on the one being cleansed from the tzaraath, and pronounce him clean; and he shall send the living bird away over the open field.

And the one being cleansed shall wash his garments and shave off all his hair and bathe in water — and he shall be clean. And afterward he may come into the camp, but he shall stay outside his tent seven days.

And it shall be on the seventh day that he shall shave off all his hair — his head, and his beard, and his eyebrows; all his hair he shall shave. And he shall wash his garments and bathe his flesh in water — and he shall be clean.

And on the eighth day he shall take two male lambs without blemish, and one female lamb a year old without blemish, and three tenths of fine flour as a grain offering mixed with oil, and one log of oil.

And the priest who cleanses shall set the man being cleansed, with these things, before the LORD, at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

And the priest shall take the one lamb and bring it near as a guilt offering, with the log of oil, and wave them as a wave offering before the LORD.

And he shall slaughter the lamb in the place where the sin offering and the burnt offering are slaughtered, in the place of the holy — for like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is a holy of holies.

And the priest shall take some of the blood of the guilt offering, and the priest shall put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one being cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.

And the priest shall take some of the log of oil and pour it into the palm of the priest’s own left hand.

And the priest shall dip his right finger in the oil that is in his left palm, and sprinkle some of the oil with his finger seven times before the LORD.

And some of the rest of the oil that is in his palm the priest shall put on the lobe of the right ear of the one being cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot — on top of the blood of the guilt offering.

And what remains of the oil that is in the priest’s palm he shall put on the head of the one being cleansed. And the priest shall make atonement for him before the LORD.

And the priest shall offer the sin offering, and make atonement for the one being cleansed from his uncleanness; and afterward he shall slaughter the burnt offering.

And the priest shall offer up the burnt offering and the grain offering on the altar. And the priest shall make atonement for him — and he shall be clean.

And if he is poor and his hand cannot reach so much, then he shall take one lamb as a guilt offering, for waving, to make atonement for him, and one tenth of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering, and a log of oil,

and two turtledoves or two young pigeons, whichever his hand can reach — and the one shall be a sin offering, and the other a burnt offering.

And he shall bring them on the eighth day, for his cleansing, to the priest, to the door of the Tent of Meeting, before the LORD.

And the priest shall take the lamb of the guilt offering and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them as a wave offering before the LORD.

And he shall slaughter the lamb of the guilt offering; and the priest shall take some of the blood of the guilt offering and put it on the lobe of the right ear of the one being cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot.

And the priest shall pour some of the oil into the priest’s own left palm,

and the priest shall sprinkle with his right finger some of the oil that is in his left palm, seven times before the LORD.

And the priest shall put some of the oil that is in his palm on the lobe of the right ear of the one being cleansed, and on the thumb of his right hand, and on the big toe of his right foot — on the place of the blood of the guilt offering.

And what remains of the oil that is in the priest’s palm he shall put on the head of the one being cleansed, to make atonement for him before the LORD.

And he shall offer the one of the turtledoves or of the young pigeons, whichever his hand can reach —

whichever his hand can reach — the one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, together with the grain offering. And the priest shall make atonement for the one being cleansed, before the LORD.

This is the instruction for the one in whom is a mark of tzaraath, whose hand cannot reach what is required for his cleansing.”

Signs of Home Contamination

And the LORD spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,

“When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am giving you as a holding, and I put a mark of tzaraath in a house in the land of your holding,

then the one whose house it is shall come and tell the priest: ‘Something like a mark has appeared to me in the house.’

And the priest shall command, and they shall clear the house before the priest comes to look at the mark, so that everything in the house does not become unclean; and after that the priest shall come to look at the house.

And he shall look at the mark, and look — if the mark in the walls of the house is greenish or reddish depressions, and their appearance is deeper than the wall,

then the priest shall go out of the house to the door of the house, and shut up the house seven days.

And the priest shall return on the seventh day and look — if the mark has spread in the walls of the house,

then the priest shall command, and they shall pull out the stones in which the mark is, and throw them outside the city, to an unclean place.

And he shall have the house scraped inside all around, and they shall pour out the plaster they scrape off outside the city, to an unclean place.

And they shall take other stones and put them in the place of those stones; and he shall take other plaster and plaster the house.

And if the mark returns and breaks out in the house after he has pulled out the stones, and after the scraping of the house, and after the plastering,

then the priest shall come and look — if the mark has spread in the house, it is a malignant tzaraath in the house; it is unclean.

And he shall tear down the house — its stones, and its timbers, and all the plaster of the house — and carry them outside the city, to an unclean place.

And whoever comes into the house all the days it is shut up shall be unclean until the evening.

And whoever lies down in the house shall wash his garments; and whoever eats in the house shall wash his garments.

Cleansing a Home

But if the priest surely comes and looks, and look — the mark has not spread in the house after the plastering of the house, then the priest shall pronounce the house clean, for the mark is healed.

And to purify the house he shall take two birds, and cedar wood, and scarlet yarn, and hyssop.

And he shall slaughter the one bird over an earthen vessel, over living water.

And he shall take the cedar wood, and the hyssop, and the scarlet yarn, and the living bird, and dip them in the blood of the slaughtered bird and in the living water, and sprinkle the house seven times.

And he shall purify the house with the blood of the bird, and with the living water, and with the living bird, and with the cedar wood, and with the hyssop, and with the scarlet yarn.

And he shall send the living bird away outside the city, over the open field. And he shall make atonement for the house — and it shall be clean.

This is the instruction for every mark of tzaraath, and for the scall,

and for the tzaraath of the garment and of the house,

and for the swelling, and for the scab, and for the bright spot —

to teach when something is unclean and when it is clean. This is the instruction of tzaraath.”
