Bildad: Job Should Repent
And Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
How long will you speak these things, and the sayings of your mouth be a mighty wind?
Does God pervert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness?
If your sons sinned against him, then he sent them away into the hand of their transgression.
If you would seek God early, and plead with the Almighty —
if you are pure and upright, then surely now he would rouse himself for you, and restore your righteous homestead.
And your beginning would be small, and your end would grow very great.
For ask, please, of the former generation, and set yourself to what their fathers searched out.
For we are of yesterday, and know nothing; for our days on the earth are a shadow.
Will they not teach you, and tell you, and bring out words from their heart?
Does papyrus grow tall without a marsh? Does reed-grass flourish without water?
While it is still in its greenness, not plucked, it withers before any grass.
So are the paths of all who forget God; and the hope of the godless perishes,
whose confidence is cut off, and whose trust is a spider’s house.
He leans on his house, and it does not stand; he holds fast to it, and it does not rise.
He is well-watered before the sun, and his shoot goes out over his garden.
His roots are entwined over a heap; he looks upon a house of stones.
If he is swallowed up from his place, then it denies him: “I never saw you.”
Look, that is the joy of his way; and from the dust others sprout.
Look, God will not reject the blameless, and he will not take hold of the hand of evildoers.
He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with a shout.
Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no more.
