Children of God

Behold what love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God — and we are. Because of this the world does not know us: because it did not know him.

Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet been made manifest what we will be. We know that if he is made manifest we will be like him, because we will see him just as he is.

And everyone having this hope in him purifies himself, just as that one is pure.

Everyone doing sin also does lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness.

And you know that that one was made manifest so that he might take away sins, and in him there is no sin.

Everyone abiding in him does not sin; everyone sinning has not seen him nor has known him.

Little children, let no one lead you astray. The one doing righteousness is righteous, just as that one is righteous.

The one doing sin is of the devil, because the devil sins from the beginning. For this the Son of God was made manifest: so that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Everyone begotten of God does not do sin, because his seed abides in him; and he is not able to sin, because he has been begotten of God.

By this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: everyone not doing righteousness is not of God, nor is the one not loving his brother.

Love One Another

For this is the message that you heard from the beginning: that we should love one another —

not as Cain, who was of the evil one and slew his brother. And for what did he slay him? Because his works were evil, and his brother’s righteous.

And do not marvel, brothers, if the world hates you.

We know that we have passed from death into life, because we love the brothers. The one not loving abides in death.

Everyone hating his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.

By this we have known love: because that one laid down his soul for us; and we ought to lay down our souls for the brothers.

But whoever has the goods of the world and sees his brother having need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?

Little children, let us not love in word nor in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

And by this we will know that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart before him,

that if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things.

Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have boldness toward God,

and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things pleasing before him.

And this is his commandment: that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he gave commandment to us.

And the one keeping his commandments abides in him, and he in him. And by this we know that he abides in us: by the Spirit whom he gave to us.
