I John2

Jesus Our Advocate

My little children, these things I write to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

and he himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for those of the whole world.

And by this we know that we have known him: if we keep his commandments.

The one saying, “I have known him,” and not keeping his commandments is a liar, and in him the truth is not;

but whoever keeps his word, truly in him the love of God has been perfected. By this we know that we are in him.

The one saying he abides in him ought himself also to walk in the same way as that one walked.

A New Commandment

Beloved, I write to you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you have had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard.

Again, a new commandment I write to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines.

The one saying he is in the light and hating his brother is in the darkness until now.

The one loving his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling.

But the one hating his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

I write to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for the sake of his name.

I write to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I wrote to you, children, because you have known the Father.

I wrote to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I wrote to you, young men, because you are strong and the word of God abides in you and you have overcome the evil one.

Do Not Love the World

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him;

because all that is in the world — the desire of the flesh and the desire of the eyes and the vaunting of life — is not from the Father but is from the world.

And the world is passing away, and its desire; but the one doing the will of God abides forever.

Beware of Antichrists

Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen, whereby we know that it is the last hour.

They went out from among us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have abode with us. But it is so that it might be made manifest that they are not all of us.

And you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know.

I did not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

Who is the liar except the one denying that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one denying the Father and the Son.

Everyone denying the Son does not have the Father either; the one confessing the Son has the Father also.

Remain in Christ

You — let what you have heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you have heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

And this is the promise that he himself promised us: the eternal life.

These things I wrote to you concerning those leading you astray.

And you — the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone teach you; but as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, abide in him.

And now, little children, abide in him, so that if he is made manifest we may have boldness and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

If you know that he is righteous, you come to know that everyone doing righteousness has been begotten of him.
