I Corinthians11

Roles in Worship

Be imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Now I commend you, that in all things you have remembered me, and are keeping the teachings even as I delivered them to you.

But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God.

Every man praying or prophesying, having anything on his head, dishonors his head.

But every woman praying or prophesying with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for it is one and the same as her being shaven.

For if a woman does not cover her head, let her also be shorn; but if it is disgraceful to a woman to be shorn or to be shaven, let her cover her head.

For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, being the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

For man is not of woman, but woman of man;

for indeed man was not created on account of the woman, but woman on account of the man.

Because of this the woman ought to have authority on her head, on account of the angels.

However, neither is woman without man nor man without woman in the Lord;

for just as the woman is of the man, so also the man is through the woman — but all things are of God.

Judge among yourselves: is it becoming for a woman to pray to God uncovered?

Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair it is a dishonor to him,

but if a woman has long hair it is a glory to her? For the long hair has been given to her instead of a covering.

But if anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such custom, nor do the churches of God.

Sharing in the Lord’s Supper

Now in instructing this I do not praise you, because you come together not for the better but for the worse.

For first, indeed, when you come together in an assembly, I hear there to be divisions among you — and in part I believe it;

for it behooves there also to be factions among you, so that the approved may also become evident among you.

When therefore you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord’s supper;

for in the eating each takes his own supper first, and this one is hungry while that one is drunken.

Do you not have houses in which to eat and to drink? Or do you despise the church of God and put to shame those having nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you!

For I myself received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus, in the night in which He was betrayed, took bread,

and having given thanks He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.”

Likewise also the cup after having supped, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the death of the Lord until He comes.

Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord.

But let a man examine himself, and in this manner let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup;

for the one eating and drinking without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.

Because of this many among you are weak and sick, and many have fallen asleep.

For if we were judging ourselves, we would not come under judgment;

but being judged by the Lord, we are disciplined, so that we may not be condemned with the world.

So then, my brothers, coming together in order to eat, wait for one another.

If anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, so that you may not come together for judgment. And the other things I will set in order as soon as I come.
