I Chronicles14

David’s Family Grows

And Huram, king of Tyre, sent messengers to David, and cedar timber, and masons of walls, and craftsmen of wood, to build him a house.

And David knew that the LORD had established him as king over Israel — for his kingdom was lifted high, for the sake of his people Israel.

And David took more wives in Jerusalem; and David fathered more sons and daughters.

And these are the names of the children he had in Jerusalem: Shammua, and Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon,

and Ibhar, and Elishua, and Elpelet,

and Nogah, and Nepheg, and Japhia,

and Elishama, and Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

Two Victories over the Philistines

And the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king over all Israel; and all the Philistines went up to seek David. And David heard, and went out before them.

And the Philistines came and made a raid in the Valley of Rephaim.

And David inquired of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will you give them into my hand?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up — and I will give them into your hand.”

And they went up to Baal-perazim, and David struck them down there. And David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like a breakthrough of waters.” Therefore they called the name of that place Baal-perazim.

And they abandoned their gods there; and David gave word, and they were burned with fire.

And the Philistines yet again made a raid in the valley.

And David inquired again of God; and God said to him: “You shall not go up after them. Circle around away from them, and come at them opposite the baca trees.

And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the baca trees, then you shall go out to battle — for God has gone out before you, to strike the camp of the Philistines.”

And David did as God had commanded him; and they struck the camp of the Philistines from Gibeon as far as Gezer.

And the name of David went out into all the lands; and the LORD put the dread of him on all the nations.
