David Fetches the Ark
And David took counsel with the commanders of the thousands and the hundreds — with every leader.
And David said to all the assembly of Israel: “If it seems good to you, and it is from the LORD our God, let us break out and send to our brothers who remain in all the lands of Israel — and with them the priests and the Levites in the cities of their pasturelands — that they may gather to us;
and let us bring around the ark of our God to us — for we did not seek it in the days of Saul.”
And all the assembly said to do so — for the thing was upright in the eyes of all the people.
And David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.
And David and all Israel went up to Baalah — to Kiriath-jearim, which belongs to Judah — to bring up from there the ark of God, the LORD who sits enthroned on the cherubim, where the Name is called on.
And they mounted the ark of God on a new cart, from the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and Ahio were driving the cart.
Uzzah Touches the Ark
And David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all might — with songs, and with lyres, and with harps, and with tambourines, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.
And they came as far as the threshing floor of Chidon; and Uzza stretched out his hand to take hold of the ark, for the oxen had stumbled.
And the anger of the LORD burned against Uzza, and he struck him down, because he had stretched out his hand against the ark; and he died there, before God.
And it burned in David, because the LORD had broken out in a breach against Uzza; and that place is called Perez-uzza to this day.
And David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring the ark of God to me?”
And David did not take the ark aside to himself, to the city of David; and he turned it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.
And the ark of God stayed with the household of Obed-edom, in his house, three months. And the LORD blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that he had.
