The Lantern

II Timothy4

Preach the Word

I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is about to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:

preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; convict, rebuke, encourage, with complete patience and instruction.

For there will be a time when they will not endure the sound teaching, but according to their own desires they will gather teachers around them, having an itching ear,

and they will turn the ear away from the truth and be turned aside to myths.

But you, be sober in all things, endure affliction, do the work of an evangelist, fully carry out your ministry.

For I am already being poured out, and the time of my departure has come.

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

From now on there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me in that day — and not to me only but also to all those who have loved his appearing.

Personal Concerns

Be diligent to come to me soon.

For Demas deserted me, having loved the present age, and has gone to Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

Luke alone is with me. Take Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for the ministry.

And Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus.

The cloak that I left in Troas with Carpus, bring when you come, and the books, especially the parchments.

Alexander the coppersmith did me great harm; the Lord will render to him according to his deeds.

Beware of him yourself also, for he has exceedingly opposed our words.

The Lord Remains Faithful

At my first defense no one attended me, but all deserted me; may it not be charged against them.

But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the proclamation might be fully accomplished and all the Gentiles might hear; and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

The Lord will deliver me from every evil deed and will bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom; to whom be the glory to the ages of the ages. Amen.

Final Greetings

Greet Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.

Erastus abode in Corinth, and Trophimus I left in Miletus ailing.

Be diligent to come before winter. Eubulus greets you, and Pudens and Linus and Claudia and all the brothers.

The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you all.
