The Lantern

II Corinthians5

Our Eternal Dwelling

For we know that if our earthly house of the tent is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

For indeed in this we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling that is from heaven,

if indeed, having unclothed ourselves, we will not be found naked.

For indeed we who are in the tent groan, being burdened, because we do not wish to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.

Now the one who prepared us for this very thing is God, who gave us the pledge of the Spirit.

Being therefore always confident, and knowing that while at home in the body we are away from the Lord —

for we walk through faith, not through sight —

we are confident and are pleased rather to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.

Therefore also we are ambitious, whether at home or away, to be well-pleasing to him.

For it behooves us all to be made manifest before the judgment seat of the Christ, so that each one may receive back the things done through the body, according to what he did, whether good or evil.

Ambassadors for Christ

Knowing therefore the fear of the Lord, we persuade men; but to God we have been made manifest, and I hope that we have also been made manifest in your consciences.

We are not commending ourselves to you again, but are giving you occasion for boasting on our behalf, so that you may have an answer for those boasting in appearance and not in heart.

For if we were beside ourselves, it was for God; if we are sober-minded, it is for you.

For the love of the Christ compels us, having concluded this: that one died for all, therefore all died.

And he died for all, so that those who live may no longer live to themselves but to the one who died for them and was raised.

So then from now on we know no one according to the flesh; even if we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know him so no longer.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away — behold, new things have come.

And all things are of God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning their trespasses to them, and having put in us the word of reconciliation.

Therefore we are ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were encouraging through us; we implore on behalf of Christ, Be reconciled to God.

The one who did not know sin he made sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him.
