Temple Construction Begins
And Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem, on Mount Moriah, where he had appeared to David his father — at the place David had prepared, at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
And he began to build in the second month, on the second day, in the fourth year of his reign.
And these are the foundations Solomon laid for building the house of God: the length, in cubits by the former measure, sixty cubits, and the width, twenty cubits.
And the porch that was across the front — its length, across the width of the house, twenty cubits, and the height a hundred and twenty; and he overlaid it inside with pure gold.
The Temple’s Interior
And the great house he paneled with cypress wood, and covered it with fine gold; and he raised on it palm trees and chains.
And he overlaid the house with precious stone for splendor; and the gold was gold of Parvaim.
And he covered the house — the beams, the thresholds, and its walls, and its doors — with gold; and he engraved cherubim on the walls.
And he made the house of the holy of holies: its length, across the width of the house, twenty cubits, and its width twenty cubits; and he covered it with fine gold — six hundred talents.
And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And the upper chambers he covered with gold.
The Cherubim
And in the house of the holy of holies he made two cherubim of sculptured work; and they overlaid them with gold.
And the wings of the cherubim — their length was twenty cubits: the wing of the one, five cubits, touching the wall of the house, and the other wing, five cubits, touching the wing of the other cherub;
and the wing of the other cherub, five cubits, touching the wall of the house, and the other wing, five cubits, joined to the wing of the other cherub.
The wings of these cherubim spread out twenty cubits; and they stood on their feet, with their faces toward the house.
The Veil and Pillars
And he made the veil of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen; and he raised cherubim on it.
And he made before the house two pillars, thirty-five cubits long; and the capital that was on the head of each, five cubits.
And he made chains, as in the inner sanctuary, and set them on the heads of the pillars; and he made a hundred pomegranates and set them on the chains.
And he raised up the pillars before the temple, one on the right and one on the left; and he called the name of the one on the right Jachin, and the name of the one on the left Boaz.
