Uzziah Reigns in Judah
And all the people of Judah took Uzziah — he was sixteen years old — and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.
He built Eloth and restored it to Judah, after the king lay down with his fathers.
Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jecoliah, from Jerusalem.
And he did the upright in the eyes of the LORD, according to all that Amaziah his father had done.
And he set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who gave understanding in the seeing of God; and in the days of his seeking the LORD, God made him succeed.
And he went out and fought against the Philistines, and broke through the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the territory of Ashdod and among the Philistines.
And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians who lived in Gur-baal, and the Meunites.
And the Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah; and his name went as far as the approach to Egypt — for he grew exceedingly strong.
And Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem, at the Corner Gate, and at the Valley Gate, and at the Angle; and he strengthened them.
And he built towers in the wilderness, and cut out many cisterns — for he had much livestock, both in the lowland and on the plain; farmers and vinedressers in the mountains and in the fertile field — for he was a lover of the soil.
And Uzziah had a force making war, going out to the army by raiding band, by the count of their mustering, by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the commanders of the king.
The whole count of the heads of the fathers, mighty men of valor: two thousand six hundred.
And under their hand was the force of an army: three hundred and seven thousand five hundred, making war with the power of might, to help the king against the enemy.
And Uzziah prepared for them — for all the army — shields, and spears, and helmets, and armor, and bows, and stones for slinging.
And he made in Jerusalem devices, the invention of a deviser, to be on the towers and on the corners, to shoot arrows and great stones. And his name went out far — for he was wonderfully helped, until he was strong.
But when he was strong, his heart rose high, to his ruin; and he broke faith with the LORD his God, and came into the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.
And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of the LORD, sons of valor;
and they stood against Uzziah the king and said to him: “It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD — but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the sanctuary — for you have broken faith; and it will bring you no honor from the LORD God.”
And Uzziah raged — and in his hand was a censer for burning incense; and as he raged at the priests, the tzaraath broke out on his forehead, before the priests, in the house of the LORD, beside the altar of incense.
And Azariah the head priest, and all the priests, turned toward him — and look, he had tzaraath on his forehead; and they rushed him out of there. And he himself also hurried to go out, for the LORD had struck him.
And Uzziah the king had tzaraath until the day of his death; and he lived in a house set apart, with tzaraath — for he was cut off from the house of the LORD. And Jotham his son was over the house of the king, judging the people of the land.
And the rest of the acts of Uzziah, the first and the last, Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, wrote.
And Uzziah lay down with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the burial field that belonged to the kings — for they said, “He has tzaraath.” And Jotham his son became king in his place.
