Genesis6

Corruption on the Earth

And it happened, when man began to multiply on the face of the ground and daughters were born to them,

that the sons of God saw the daughters of man, that they were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves from all they chose.

And the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not remain in man forever, for he also is flesh; and his days shall be a hundred and twenty years.”

The Nephilim were on the earth in those days — and also afterward — when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty ones of old, the men of name.

And the LORD saw that the evil of man was great on the earth, and that every shaping of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the day.

And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.

And the LORD said, “I will wipe out man, whom I created, from the face of the ground — from man to beast, to creeping thing, to the birds of the heavens — for I regret that I made them.”

Noah’s Favor with God

But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.

These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, whole in his generations; Noah walked with God.

And Noah fathered three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

And the earth was ruined before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

And God saw the earth — and look, it was ruined, for all flesh had ruined its way on the earth.

Preparing the Ark

And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence because of them — and look, I am going to ruin them with the earth.

Make yourself an ark of gopher wood. You shall make the ark with rooms, and cover it inside and out with pitch.

And this is how you shall make it: three hundred cubits the length of the ark, fifty cubits its width, and thirty cubits its height.

You shall make a roof for the ark, and finish it to a cubit from the top. And you shall set the door of the ark in its side; with lower, second, and third decks you shall make it.

And I — look, I am bringing the flood, waters over the earth, to ruin all flesh under the heavens in which is the breath of life. Everything that is on the earth shall die.

But I will establish my covenant with you, and you shall come into the ark — you, and your sons, and your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.

And of every living thing, of all flesh, you shall bring two of each into the ark, to keep them alive with you; male and female they shall be.

Of the birds after their kind, and of the livestock after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind — two of each shall come to you, to be kept alive.

And you — take for yourself of every food that is eaten, and gather it to yourself; and it shall be food for you and for them.”

And Noah did it; according to all that God commanded him, so he did.
