The Lantern

Genesis2

The Seventh Day

And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their host.

And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had made, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had made.

And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, for on it he rested from all his work — that which God had created to make.

Man and Woman in the Garden

These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day the LORD God made earth and heavens.

Now no shrub of the field was yet on the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprung up — for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth, and there was no man to work the ground —

but a mist would go up from the earth and water the whole face of the ground.

And the LORD God formed the man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life — and the man became a living being.

And the LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he set the man he had formed.

And the LORD God made to grow from the ground every tree desirable to the sight and good for food — and the tree of life in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

And a river goes out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four heads.

The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that winds through the whole land of Havilah, where the gold is.

And the gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there.

And the name of the second river is Gihon; it is the one that winds through the whole land of Cush.

And the name of the third river is Tigris; it is the one that goes east of Assyria. And the fourth river — it is the Euphrates.

And the LORD God took the man and settled him in the garden of Eden, to work it and to keep it.

And the LORD God commanded the man: “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat,

but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat — for in the day you eat of it, you shall surely die.”

And the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper matching him.”

And the LORD God formed from the ground every animal of the field and every bird of the heavens, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them — and whatever the man called a living being, that was its name.

And the man gave names to all the livestock, and to the birds of the heavens, and to every animal of the field — but for Adam no helper was found matching him.

And the LORD God made a deep sleep fall on the man, and he slept; and he took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place.

And the LORD God built the rib he had taken from the man into a woman, and brought her to the man.

And the man said, “This one, at last, is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh. This one shall be called Woman, for out of Man this one was taken.”

Therefore a man leaves his father and his mother and holds fast to his wife, and they become one flesh.

And the two of them were naked, the man and his wife, and they were not ashamed.
