And you, son of man, take yourself a brick and set it before you, and engrave on it a city — Jerusalem.
And set a siege against it, and build a siege wall against it, and pour up a ramp against it, and set camps against it, and place battering rams against it all around.
And you, take yourself an iron griddle and set it as an iron wall between you and the city; and set your face toward it, and it will be under siege, and you will besiege it. This is a sign for the house of Israel.
And you, lie on your left side, and put the iniquity of the house of Israel on it. For the number of days that you lie on it you will bear their iniquity.
And I myself have given you the years of their iniquity by the number of days: three hundred and ninety days; and you will bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
And when you have finished these, you will lie a second time on your right side, and you will bear the iniquity of the house of Judah: forty days, a day for a year — a day for a year I have given you.
And you will set your face toward the siege of Jerusalem, and your arm bared, and prophesy against it.
And see, I have put ropes on you, and you will not turn from one side to your other side until you have finished the days of your siege.
The Defiled Bread
And you, take yourself wheat and barley and beans and lentils and millet and spelt, and put them in one vessel, and make them into bread for yourself. For the number of days that you lie on your side, three hundred and ninety days, you will eat it.
And your food that you eat will be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from time to time you will eat it.
And water by measure you will drink, a sixth of a hin; from time to time you will drink.
And you will eat it as a barley cake, and you will bake it over pellets of human dung before their eyes.
And the LORD said: So the sons of Israel will eat their bread unclean among the nations where I drive them.
And I said: Ah, Lord GOD! See, my soul has not been defiled, and from my youth until now I have not eaten a carcass or a torn animal, and foul flesh has not come into my mouth.
And he said to me: See, I have given you cattle droppings in place of human dung, and you will make your bread over them.
And he said to me: Son of man, see, I am breaking the staff of bread in Jerusalem; and they will eat bread by weight and in anxiety, and drink water by measure and in horror,
so that they lack bread and water, and are desolate, a man and his brother, and waste away in their iniquity.
