And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say: Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD.
Thus says the Lord GOD: Because the enemy said over you, Aha! and: The ancient high places have become ours as a possession —
therefore prophesy and say: Thus says the Lord GOD: Because, yes because, they made you desolate and panted after you from every side, so that you became a possession to the remnant of the nations, and you came up on the lip of the tongue and the evil report of the people —
therefore, mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. Thus says the Lord GOD to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys, to the desolate ruins and to the abandoned cities, which became plunder and derision to the remnant of the nations that are all around —
therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Surely in the fire of my jealousy I have spoken against the remnant of the nations and against Edom, all of it, who gave my land to themselves as a possession with the joy of all the heart, with contempt of soul, so that its pasture might be for plunder.
Therefore prophesy over the land of Israel and say to the mountains and to the hills, to the ravines and to the valleys: Thus says the Lord GOD: See, in my jealousy and in my wrath I have spoken, because you have borne the humiliation of the nations.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: I myself have lifted my hand — surely the nations that are around you, they will bear their humiliation.
But you, mountains of Israel, will give your branches and bear your fruit for my people Israel, for they are near to coming.
For see, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you will be tilled and sown.
And I will multiply man upon you, all the house of Israel, all of it; and the cities will be inhabited and the ruins built.
And I will multiply upon you man and beast, and they will increase and be fruitful; and I will settle you as in your former times and do better for you than at your beginnings; and you will know that I am the LORD.
And I will make man walk upon you — my people Israel — and they will possess you, and you will be their inheritance; and you will no longer continue to bereave them.
Thus says the Lord GOD: Because they are saying to you: You are a devourer of men, and you have been a bereaver of your nations —
therefore you will devour men no longer and will no longer bereave your nations, the utterance of the Lord GOD.
And I will no longer let the humiliation of the nations be heard against you, and the reproach of the peoples you will bear no longer; and you will no longer make your nations stumble, the utterance of the Lord GOD.
A New Heart and a New Spirit
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
Son of man, the house of Israel, dwelling on their own land, defiled it by their way and by their deeds. Like the uncleanness of a woman in her impurity was their way before me.
And I poured out my wrath upon them for the blood that they poured out on the land, and by their idols they defiled it.
And I scattered them among the nations, and they were dispersed through the lands. According to their way and according to their deeds I judged them.
And they came to the nations where they came, and they profaned my holy name, when it was said of them: These are the people of the LORD, and from his land they went out.
But I had pity on my holy name, which the house of Israel profaned among the nations where they came.
Therefore say to the house of Israel: Thus says the Lord GOD: Not for your sake am I acting, house of Israel, but for my holy name, which you profaned among the nations where you came.
And I will sanctify my great name, profaned among the nations, which you profaned in their midst; and the nations will know that I am the LORD, the utterance of the Lord GOD, when I am sanctified in you before their eyes.
And I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the lands and bring you to your own land.
And I will throw clean water upon you, and you will be clean; from all your uncleannesses and from all your idols I will cleanse you.
And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
And my spirit I will put within you, and I will bring it about that you walk in my statutes and keep my judgments and do them.
And you will dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and you will be my people, and I myself will be your God.
And I will save you from all your uncleannesses; and I will call to the grain and multiply it, and I will not put famine upon you.
And I will multiply the fruit of the tree and the produce of the field, so that you will no longer take the reproach of famine among the nations.
And you will remember your evil ways and your doings that were not good, and you will loathe yourselves before your own faces for your iniquities and for your abominations.
Not for your sake am I acting, the utterance of the Lord GOD — let it be known to you. Be ashamed and humiliated for your ways, house of Israel.
Thus says the Lord GOD: On the day I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will settle the cities, and the ruins will be built.
And the desolate land will be tilled, in place of being a desolation before the eyes of everyone passing by.
And they will say: This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden; and the cities that were ruined and desolate and demolished are fortified and inhabited.
And the nations that are left around you will know that I the LORD have built the demolished places and planted what was desolate. I the LORD have spoken, and I will do it.
Thus says the Lord GOD: Yet for this I will let myself be sought by the house of Israel, to do for them: I will multiply them with men like a flock.
Like a holy flock, like the flock of Jerusalem at her appointed times, so the ruined cities will be full of flocks of men; and they will know that I am the LORD.
