A Lament for Egypt
And the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
Son of man, prophesy and say: Thus says the Lord GOD: Wail — Alas for the day!
For a day is near, and a day for the LORD is near, a day of cloud; the time of the nations it will be.
And a sword will come against Egypt, and there will be anguish in Cush when the slain fall in Egypt; and they will take her multitude, and her foundations will be demolished.
Cush and Put and Lud and all the mixed people, and Chub, and the sons of the land of the covenant, will fall with them by the sword.
Thus says the LORD: And those upholding Egypt will fall, and the pride of her strength will come down. From Migdol to Syene they will fall in her by the sword, the utterance of the Lord GOD.
And they will be desolate in the midst of desolate lands, and her cities will be in the midst of ruined cities.
And they will know that I am the LORD, when I set fire in Egypt and all her helpers are broken.
On that day messengers will go out from before me in ships to make Cush tremble in her security; and there will be anguish among them as on the day of Egypt — for see, it is coming.
Thus says the Lord GOD: And I will make the multitude of Egypt cease by the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon.
He and his people with him, the ruthless of the nations, are brought to destroy the land. And they will draw their swords against Egypt and fill the land with the slain.
And I will make the channels dry ground and sell the land into the hand of evil men; and I will make the land and its fullness desolate by the hand of strangers. I the LORD have spoken.
Thus says the Lord GOD: And I will destroy the idols and make the worthless things cease from Noph; and a leader from the land of Egypt there will no longer be; and I will put fear in the land of Egypt.
And I will make Pathros desolate and set fire in Zoan, and I will do judgments in No.
And I will pour out my wrath on Sin, the stronghold of Egypt, and I will cut off the multitude of No.
And I will set fire in Egypt. Sin will writhe in writhing, and No will be broken open, and Noph — foes by day.
The young men of Aven and Pi-beseth will fall by the sword, and these will go into captivity.
And at Tehaphnehes the day will grow dark, when I break there the yoke bars of Egypt, and the pride of her strength will cease in her. She — a cloud will cover her, and her daughters will go into captivity.
And I will do judgments in Egypt; and they will know that I am the LORD.
Pharaoh’s Power Broken
And it was in the eleventh year, in the first month, on the seventh of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying:
Son of man, the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt I have broken; and see, it has not been bound up to give healing, to set a bandage to bind it, to make it firm to grasp the sword.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: See, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and I will break his arms, the firm one and the broken one, and I will make the sword fall from his hand.
And I will scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse them through the lands.
And I will make firm the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand; and I will break the arms of Pharaoh, and he will moan the moanings of a slain man before him.
And I will make firm the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh will fall; and they will know that I am the LORD, when I put my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon and he stretches it out against the land of Egypt.
And I will scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse them through the lands; and they will know that I am the LORD.
