Ezekiel26

A Prophecy against Tyre

And it was in the eleventh year, on the first of the month, that the word of the LORD came to me, saying:

Son of man, because Tyre said over Jerusalem: Aha! The doors of the peoples are broken; it has turned to me; I will be filled, she is laid in ruins —

therefore thus says the Lord GOD: See, I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring up against you many nations, as the sea brings up its waves.

And they will destroy the walls of Tyre and demolish her towers; and I will scrape her dust from her and make her a bare rock.

A spreading place for nets she will be, in the midst of the sea — for I have spoken, the utterance of the Lord GOD — and she will become plunder for the nations.

And her daughters who are in the field will be killed by the sword; and they will know that I am the LORD.

For thus says the Lord GOD: See, I am bringing against Tyre Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon from the north, king of kings, with horse and with chariot and with horsemen, and an assembly and many people.

Your daughters in the field he will kill with the sword; and he will set siege walls against you and pour up a ramp against you and raise a buckler against you.

And the beating of his battering ram he will set against your walls, and your towers he will tear down with his swords.

From the abundance of his horses their dust will cover you; at the sound of horseman and wheel and chariot your walls will shake, when he comes into your gates as one comes into a city broken open.

With the hooves of his horses he will trample all your streets; your people he will kill with the sword, and the pillars of your strength will go down to the ground.

And they will plunder your wealth and take your merchandise as spoil, and demolish your walls and tear down your desirable houses; and your stones and your timber and your dust they will set in the midst of the water.

And I will make the noise of your songs cease, and the sound of your harps will be heard no more.

And I will make you a bare rock; a spreading place for nets you will be. You will not be built again, for I the LORD have spoken, the utterance of the Lord GOD.

Thus says the Lord GOD to Tyre: Will not the coastlands shake at the sound of your fall, when the slain groan, when slaughter is slaughtered in your midst?

And all the leaders of the sea will come down from their thrones and remove their robes and strip off their embroidered garments. With shuddering they will clothe themselves; on the ground they will sit, and they will shudder every moment and be desolate over you.

And they will lift up a lament for you and say to you: How you have perished, you inhabited from the seas, the praised city, who was strong in the sea, she and her inhabitants, who set their terror on all who dwell there!

Now the coastlands shudder on the day of your fall, and the coastlands that are in the sea are terrified at your going out.

For thus says the Lord GOD: When I make you a ruined city, like the cities that are not inhabited, when I bring up the deep over you and the many waters cover you,

then I will bring you down with those going down to the pit, to the people of long ago, and settle you in the land below, in ruins from of old, with those going down to the pit, so that you are not inhabited; and I will set splendor in the land of the living.

A sudden end I will make you, and you will be no more. You will be sought and never found again, the utterance of the Lord GOD.
