Exodus9

The Fifth Plague: Livestock

And the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh and speak to him: ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go, that they may serve me.

For if you refuse to let them go, and still hold them fast —

look, the hand of the LORD is coming on your livestock that are in the field: on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the herds, and on the flocks — a very heavy pestilence.

And the LORD will set apart the livestock of Israel from the livestock of Egypt, and nothing of all that belongs to the sons of Israel will die.’”

And the LORD set an appointed time: “Tomorrow the LORD will do this thing in the land.”

And the LORD did this thing the next day, and all the livestock of Egypt died; but of the livestock of the sons of Israel, not one died.

And Pharaoh sent, and look — not even one of the livestock of Israel had died. And Pharaoh’s heart was heavy, and he did not let the people go.

The Sixth Plague: Boils

And the LORD said to Moses and to Aaron, “Take for yourselves handfuls of soot from the furnace, and let Moses throw it toward the heavens before the eyes of Pharaoh.

And it will become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and it will become boils breaking out in blisters on man and on beast, in all the land of Egypt.”

And they took the soot of the furnace and stood before Pharaoh, and Moses threw it toward the heavens; and it became boils breaking out in blisters on man and on beast.

And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the magicians and on all Egypt.

And the LORD made Pharaoh’s heart strong, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken to Moses.

The Seventh Plague: Hail

And the LORD said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and station yourself before Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews: Let my people go, that they may serve me.

For this time I am sending all my plagues against your heart, and against your servants and against your people — so that you may know that there is no one like me in all the earth.

For by now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, and you would have been wiped off the earth.

But for this very purpose I have let you stand: to show you my power, and so that my name may be declared in all the earth.

You are still exalting yourself over my people, by not letting them go.

Look — at this time tomorrow I am going to rain down a very heavy hail, such as there has not been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now.

And now, send and bring your livestock to safety, and all that you have in the field. Every man and beast that is found in the field and not gathered into the house — the hail will come down on them, and they will die.’”

Whoever feared the word of the LORD among Pharaoh’s servants made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses;

but whoever did not set his heart to the word of the LORD left his servants and his livestock in the field.

And the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the heavens, and let there be hail in all the land of Egypt — on man and on beast and on every plant of the field in the land of Egypt.”

And Moses stretched out his staff toward the heavens; and the LORD gave thunder and hail, and fire ran down to the earth. And the LORD rained hail on the land of Egypt.

And there was hail, with fire flashing back and forth in the midst of the hail — very heavy, such as there had not been in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation.

And the hail struck, in all the land of Egypt, everything that was in the field, from man to beast; and the hail struck every plant of the field, and shattered every tree of the field.

Only in the land of Goshen, where the sons of Israel were, was there no hail.

And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and for Aaron, and said to them, “I have sinned this time. The LORD is the righteous one, and I and my people are the wicked ones.

Plead with the LORD — there has been enough of God’s thunder and hail — and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.”

And Moses said to him, “As soon as I go out of the city, I will spread out my hands to the LORD. The thunder will cease, and the hail will be no more — so that you may know that the earth belongs to the LORD.

But as for you and your servants — I know that you do not yet fear before the LORD God.”

Now the flax and the barley were struck down, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud;

but the wheat and the spelt were not struck down, for they ripen late.

And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread out his hands to the LORD; and the thunder and the hail ceased, and rain no longer poured down on the earth.

And Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased — and he sinned yet again, and made his heart heavy, he and his servants.

And Pharaoh’s heart was strong, and he did not let the sons of Israel go, as the LORD had spoken by the hand of Moses.
