And the LORD said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: Let my people go, that they may serve me.
And if you refuse to let them go, look — I am going to strike your whole territory with frogs.
And the Nile will swarm with frogs, and they will come up and enter your house, and your bedroom, and onto your bed, and into the houses of your servants, and among your people, and into your ovens and your kneading troughs.
And on you and on your people and on all your servants the frogs will come up.’”
And the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron: ‘Stretch out your hand with your staff over the rivers, over the canals, and over the pools, and bring up the frogs on the land of Egypt.’”
And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up and covered the land of Egypt.
And the magicians did the same with their secret arts, and brought up frogs on the land of Egypt.
And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron and said, “Plead with the LORD to take the frogs away from me and from my people — and I will let the people go, that they may sacrifice to the LORD.”
And Moses said to Pharaoh, “Have this honor over me: for when shall I plead for you and for your servants and for your people, to cut off the frogs from you and from your houses — only in the Nile shall they remain?”
And he said, “For tomorrow.” And he said, “As you say — so that you may know that there is no one like the LORD our God.
And the frogs will turn away from you and from your houses and from your servants and from your people; only in the Nile shall they remain.”
And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh; and Moses cried out to the LORD over the matter of the frogs that he had brought on Pharaoh.
And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the courtyards, and out of the fields.
And they piled them up in heap after heap — and the land stank.
And Pharaoh saw that there was relief, and he made his heart heavy, and did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken.
The Third Plague: Gnats
And the LORD said to Moses, “Say to Aaron: ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, and it will become gnats in all the land of Egypt.’”
And they did so. And Aaron stretched out his hand with his staff and struck the dust of the earth, and the gnats came on man and on beast; all the dust of the earth became gnats in all the land of Egypt.
And the magicians did the same with their secret arts, to bring out the gnats — but they could not. And the gnats were on man and on beast.
And the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” And Pharaoh’s heart was strong, and he did not listen to them, as the LORD had spoken.
The Fourth Plague: Flies
And the LORD said to Moses, “Rise early in the morning and station yourself before Pharaoh — look, he goes out to the water — and say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: Let my people go, that they may serve me.
For if you do not let my people go, look — I am going to send the swarm against you and against your servants and against your people and into your houses. And the houses of Egypt will be full of the swarm — and even the ground on which they stand.
But on that day I will set apart the land of Goshen, on which my people stand, so that no swarm will be there — so that you may know that I am the LORD in the midst of the land.
And I will put a ransom between my people and your people. Tomorrow this sign shall be.’”
And the LORD did so; and a heavy swarm came into the house of Pharaoh and the house of his servants; and in all the land of Egypt the land was ruined before the swarm.
And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God — within the land.”
And Moses said, “It is not right to do so, for what we sacrifice to the LORD our God is an abomination to Egypt. Look — if we sacrifice what is an abomination to Egypt before their eyes, will they not stone us?
We will go a journey of three days into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God as he tells us.”
And Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, and you shall sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness — only you shall not go far away. Plead for me.”
And Moses said, “Look, I am going out from you, and I will plead with the LORD, and the swarm will turn away from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people tomorrow. Only let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully again, by not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD.”
And Moses went out from Pharaoh and pleaded with the LORD.
And the LORD did according to the word of Moses, and the swarm turned away from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; not one remained.
And Pharaoh made his heart heavy this time also, and he did not let the people go.
