The Lantern

Exodus38

The Bronze Altar

And he made the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood: five cubits its length and five cubits its width — square — and three cubits its height.

And he made its horns on its four corners; its horns were of one piece with it. And he overlaid it with bronze.

And he made all the vessels of the altar — the pots and the shovels and the basins, the forks and the firepans; all its vessels he made of bronze.

And he made for the altar a grating, a network of bronze, under its ledge, from below, reaching halfway up.

And he cast four rings at the four ends of the bronze grating, as holders for the poles.

And he made the poles of acacia wood, and overlaid them with bronze.

And he put the poles into the rings on the sides of the altar, to carry it with them; hollow, of boards, he made it.

The Bronze Basin

And he made the basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, from the mirrors of the women who served at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

The Courtyard

And he made the courtyard. For the south side, southward, the hangings of the courtyard were of fine twisted linen, a hundred cubits;

their pillars twenty, with their twenty bases of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands of silver.

And for the north side: a hundred cubits; their pillars twenty, with their twenty bases of bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands of silver.

And for the west side: hangings of fifty cubits; their pillars ten, and their bases ten; the hooks of the pillars and their bands of silver.

And for the east side, toward the sunrise: fifty cubits —

hangings of fifteen cubits for the one shoulder, with their three pillars and their three bases,

and so for the second shoulder — on this side and on that of the gate of the courtyard — hangings of fifteen cubits, with their three pillars and their three bases.

All the hangings around the courtyard were of fine twisted linen.

And the bases for the pillars were bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands were silver, and the overlay of their tops was silver; and all the pillars of the courtyard were banded with silver.

And the screen of the gate of the courtyard was the work of an embroiderer, of blue and purple and scarlet yarn and fine twisted linen; and it was twenty cubits long, and its height along the width was five cubits, matching the hangings of the courtyard;

and their pillars were four, with their four bases of bronze; their hooks silver, and the overlay of their tops and their bands silver.

And all the pegs for the Dwelling and for the courtyard all around were bronze.

An Inventory of Materials

These are the accountings of the Dwelling — the Dwelling of the Testimony — which were counted at the mouth of Moses: the service of the Levites, by the hand of Ithamar, the son of Aaron the priest.

And Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, made all that the LORD had commanded Moses;

and with him was Oholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan — a craftsman, and a skilled weaver, and an embroiderer in blue and in purple and in scarlet yarn and in fine linen.

All the gold that was used for the work, in all the work of the holy place — the gold of the wave offering — was twenty-nine talents and seven hundred and thirty shekels, by the shekel of the sanctuary.

And the silver of those of the congregation who were numbered was a hundred talents and a thousand seven hundred and seventy-five shekels, by the shekel of the sanctuary —

a beka per head, half a shekel by the shekel of the sanctuary, for everyone who passed over to those numbered, from twenty years old and upward: six hundred and three thousand, five hundred and fifty men.

And the hundred talents of silver were for casting the bases of the holy place and the bases of the veil — a hundred bases for the hundred talents, a talent per base.

And with the thousand seven hundred and seventy-five shekels he made hooks for the pillars, and overlaid their tops, and made bands for them.

And the bronze of the wave offering was seventy talents and two thousand four hundred shekels.

And with it he made the bases for the door of the Tent of Meeting, and the bronze altar with its bronze grating, and all the vessels of the altar,

and the bases of the courtyard all around, and the bases of the gate of the courtyard, and all the pegs of the Dwelling, and all the pegs of the courtyard all around.
