The Lantern

Exodus30

The Altar of Incense

And you shall make an altar for the burning of incense; of acacia wood you shall make it.

A cubit its length and a cubit its width — it shall be square — and two cubits its height; its horns shall be of one piece with it.

And you shall overlay it with pure gold — its top and its walls all around, and its horns; and you shall make for it a molding of gold all around.

And two rings of gold you shall make for it, under its molding on its two sides; you shall make them on its two flanks, as holders for the poles with which to carry it.

And you shall make the poles of acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.

And you shall put it before the veil that is by the ark of the testimony — before the atonement cover that is over the testimony — where I will meet with you.

And Aaron shall burn on it fragrant incense; morning by morning, when he tends the lamps, he shall burn it.

And when Aaron sets up the lamps between the two evenings, he shall burn it — a continual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.

You shall not offer up on it strange incense, or a burnt offering, or a grain offering; and a drink offering you shall not pour out on it.

And Aaron shall make atonement on its horns once a year; with the blood of the sin offering of atonement, once a year, he shall make atonement on it throughout your generations. It is a holy of holies to the LORD.

The Census Offering

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“When you take up the count of the sons of Israel by their numbering, each man shall give a ransom for his soul to the LORD when they are numbered, so that no plague comes on them when they are numbered.

This is what everyone who passes over to those numbered shall give: half a shekel, by the shekel of the sanctuary — twenty gerahs to the shekel — half a shekel as a contribution to the LORD.

Everyone who passes over to those numbered, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the LORD’s contribution.

The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than half a shekel, when giving the LORD’s contribution to make atonement for your souls.

And you shall take the atonement silver from the sons of Israel and give it to the service of the Tent of Meeting; and it shall be a remembrance for the sons of Israel before the LORD, to make atonement for your souls.”

The Bronze Basin

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“And you shall make a basin of bronze, with its stand of bronze, for washing; and you shall put it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and put water there.

And Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet from it.

When they go into the Tent of Meeting they shall wash with water, so that they do not die — or when they come near the altar to minister, to turn a fire offering into smoke for the LORD.

And they shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they do not die. And it shall be a statute forever for them — for him and for his seed throughout their generations.”

The Anointing Oil

And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

“And you — take for yourself the finest spices: five hundred of flowing myrrh, and half as much — two hundred and fifty — of fragrant cinnamon, and two hundred and fifty of fragrant cane,

and five hundred of cassia, by the shekel of the sanctuary, and a hin of olive oil.

And you shall make it a holy anointing oil, a perfumed blend, the work of a perfumer; a holy anointing oil it shall be.

And you shall anoint with it the Tent of Meeting, and the ark of the testimony,

and the table and all its vessels, and the lampstand and its vessels, and the altar of incense,

and the altar of burnt offering and all its vessels, and the basin and its stand.

And you shall consecrate them, and they shall be a holy of holies; whatever touches them shall become holy.

And Aaron and his sons you shall anoint, and you shall consecrate them to serve me as priests.

And to the sons of Israel you shall speak: ‘This shall be a holy anointing oil to me throughout your generations.

On the flesh of man it shall not be poured, and by its proportions you shall not make anything like it. It is holy; it shall be holy to you.

Whoever blends any like it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, shall be cut off from his people.’”

The Incense

And the LORD said to Moses, “Take for yourself spices — stacte, and onycha, and galbanum — spices with pure frankincense; part for part it shall be.

And you shall make of it incense, a perfumed blend, the work of a perfumer, salted, pure, holy.

And you shall grind some of it fine, and put some of it before the testimony in the Tent of Meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be a holy of holies to you.

And the incense that you make — by its proportions you shall not make any for yourselves; it shall be holy to you, for the LORD.

Whoever makes any like it, to smell it, shall be cut off from his people.”
