Exodus24

The Covenant Sealed

And to Moses he said, “Come up to the LORD — you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel — and bow down at a distance.

And Moses alone shall come near to the LORD; but they shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him.”

And Moses came and recounted to the people all the words of the LORD and all the judgments. And all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words that the LORD has spoken we will do.”

And Moses wrote down all the words of the LORD. And he rose early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve standing stones for the twelve tribes of Israel.

And he sent the young men of the sons of Israel, and they offered up burnt offerings and sacrificed bulls as peace offerings to the LORD.

And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar.

And he took the book of the covenant and read it in the ears of the people. And they said, “All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will listen.”

And Moses took the blood and threw it on the people, and said, “Look — the blood of the covenant that the LORD has cut with you, on all these words.”

And Moses went up, and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel.

And they saw the God of Israel. And under his feet there was something like a pavement of sapphire, and like the very heavens for clearness.

And against the nobles of the sons of Israel he did not stretch out his hand; and they beheld God, and they ate and drank.

Moses on the Mountain

And the LORD said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain and be there; and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the instruction and the commandment that I have written for their teaching.”

And Moses rose, with Joshua his attendant; and Moses went up to the mountain of God.

And to the elders he said, “Wait for us here until we return to you. And look — Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a dispute, let him go to them.”

And Moses went up to the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.

And the glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days; and on the seventh day he called to Moses from the midst of the cloud.

And the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain, before the eyes of the sons of Israel.

And Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
