Various Laws
You shall not see your brother’s ox or his sheep straying and hide yourself from them; you shall surely return them to your brother.
And if your brother is not near you, or you do not know him, then you shall gather it into the midst of your house, and it shall be with you until your brother seeks it; and you shall return it to him.
And so you shall do with his donkey, and so you shall do with his garment, and so you shall do with any lost thing of your brother’s that is lost from him and you find. You may not hide yourself.
You shall not see your brother’s donkey or his ox fallen on the way and hide yourself from them; you shall surely help him lift them up.
A woman shall not wear a man’s gear, and a man shall not put on a woman’s garment — for everyone who does these things is an abomination to the LORD your God.
If a bird’s nest happens to be before you on the way, in any tree or on the ground, with young ones or eggs, and the mother sitting on the young or on the eggs — you shall not take the mother with the young.
You shall surely send the mother away, and the young you may take for yourself — so that it may go well for you, and you may lengthen your days.
When you build a new house, you shall make a parapet for your roof, so that you do not set bloodguilt in your house if anyone falls from it.
You shall not sow your vineyard with two kinds of seed, lest the whole yield be forfeited — the seed that you sow and the produce of the vineyard.
You shall not plow with an ox and a donkey together.
You shall not wear mixed cloth — wool and linen together.
You shall make tassels for yourself on the four corners of your covering with which you cover yourself.
Marriage Violations
If a man takes a wife, and goes in to her, and then hates her,
and lays wanton charges against her and brings out an evil name against her, and says, “I took this woman, and when I came near her I did not find in her the signs of virginity” —
then the father of the young woman and her mother shall take the signs of the young woman’s virginity and bring them out to the elders of the city, at the gate.
And the father of the young woman shall say to the elders, “I gave my daughter to this man as a wife, and he hates her;
and look — he has laid wanton charges, saying, ‘I did not find in your daughter the signs of virginity.’ But these are the signs of my daughter’s virginity.” And they shall spread out the garment before the elders of the city.
And the elders of that city shall take the man and discipline him,
and fine him a hundred pieces of silver and give them to the father of the young woman — because he brought out an evil name against a virgin of Israel. And she shall be his wife; he may not send her away all his days.
But if this thing was true — the signs of virginity were not found in the young woman —
then they shall bring the young woman out to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones, and she shall die — for she has done a disgraceful folly in Israel, whoring in her father’s house. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die — the man who lay with the woman, and the woman. So you shall purge the evil from Israel.
If there is a young woman, a virgin, betrothed to a man, and a man finds her in the city and lies with her,
then you shall bring the two of them out to the gate of that city and stone them with stones, and they shall die — the young woman because she did not cry out in the city, and the man because he humbled his neighbor’s wife. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
But if the man finds the betrothed young woman in the field, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die.
And to the young woman you shall do nothing; there is in the young woman no sin deserving death. For as when a man rises up against his neighbor and murders him — a soul — so is this matter.
For he found her in the field; the betrothed young woman cried out, and there was no one to save her.
If a man finds a young woman, a virgin who is not betrothed, and seizes her and lies with her, and they are found,
then the man who lay with her shall give to the father of the young woman fifty pieces of silver; and she shall be his wife, because he humbled her. He may not send her away all his days.
A man shall not take his father’s wife, and shall not uncover his father’s garment corner.
