Detestable Sacrifices
You shall not sacrifice to the LORD your God an ox or a sheep in which there is a defect, anything bad — for that is an abomination to the LORD your God.
Purge the Idolater
If there is found in your midst, within any of your gates that the LORD your God is giving you, a man or a woman who does the evil in the eyes of the LORD your God, transgressing his covenant,
who has gone and served other gods and bowed down to them — to the sun, or to the moon, or to any of the host of the heavens, which I have not commanded —
and it is told to you, and you hear of it, then you shall inquire thoroughly; and look — if the thing is true and established, that this abomination has been done in Israel,
then you shall bring out that man or that woman who has done this evil thing, to your gates — the man or the woman — and you shall stone them with stones, and they shall die.
At the mouth of two witnesses or three witnesses shall the one who is to die be put to death; he shall not be put to death at the mouth of one witness.
The hand of the witnesses shall be against him first, to put him to death, and the hand of all the people afterward. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
Courts of Law
If a matter is too hard for you in judgment — between blood and blood, between claim and claim, and between blow and blow, matters of dispute within your gates — then you shall rise and go up to the place that the LORD your God chooses.
And you shall come to the Levitical priests, and to the judge who is in office in those days; and you shall inquire, and they will declare to you the word of the judgment.
And you shall do according to the word that they declare to you from that place that the LORD chooses; and you shall keep to do according to all that they instruct you.
According to the instruction that they give you, and according to the judgment that they tell you, you shall do; you shall not turn aside from the word that they declare to you, right or left.
And the man who acts presumptuously, not listening to the priest who stands to minister there to the LORD your God, or to the judge — that man shall die. So you shall purge the evil from Israel.
And all the people shall hear and fear, and shall not act presumptuously again.
Guidelines for a King
When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, and possess it and live in it, and you say, “Let me set a king over me, like all the nations that are around me” —
you shall surely set over you a king whom the LORD your God chooses. From among your brothers you shall set a king over you; you may not put over you a foreign man, who is not your brother.
Only he shall not multiply horses for himself, and he shall not return the people to Egypt in order to multiply horses — for the LORD has said to you, “You shall not return that way again.”
And he shall not multiply wives for himself, so that his heart does not turn aside; and silver and gold he shall not greatly multiply for himself.
And it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this instruction in a book, from before the Levitical priests.
And it shall be with him, and he shall read in it all the days of his life — so that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this instruction and these statutes, to do them,
so that his heart is not lifted up above his brothers, and so that he does not turn aside from the commandment, right or left — so that he may lengthen his days over his kingdom, he and his sons, in the midst of Israel.
