The Lantern

Colossians2

Absent in Body, Present in Spirit

For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those in Laodicea and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,

so that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love and unto all the riches of the full assurance of understanding, unto the knowledge of the mystery of God, Christ,

in whom are all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge hidden.

This I say so that no one may delude you with persuasive speech.

For even if I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in the spirit, rejoicing and seeing your good order and the firmness of your faith in Christ.

Alive with Christ

Therefore, just as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, walk in him,

rooted and being built up in him and being strengthened in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding with thanksgiving.

Take heed lest anyone take you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the elements of the world and not according to Christ;

because in him dwells all the fullness of the Deity bodily,

and you are complete in him, who is the head of all rule and authority;

in whom also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made with hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ,

having been buried with him in baptism, in which also you were raised with him through the faith of the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

And you, being dead in the trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made alive together with him, having forgiven us all the trespasses,

having blotted out the handwriting against us in decrees, which was adverse to us; and he has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

Having disarmed the rulers and the authorities, he disgraced them in public, having triumphed over them in it.

Therefore let no one judge you in regard to food and in regard to drink, or in regard to a feast or a new moon or Sabbaths,

which are a shadow of the things coming, but the body is of Christ.

Let no one disqualify you, delighting in humility and the worship of angels, going in detail into what he has seen, vainly puffed up by the mind of his flesh,

and not holding fast to the head, from whom all the body, being supplied and knit together through the joints and ligaments, increases with the increase of God.

If you died with Christ away from the elements of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you submit to decrees —

“Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch,”

which all are unto corruption in the using — according to the commandments and teachings of men?

These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed worship and humility and harsh treatment of the body, but are not of any value against the indulgence of the flesh.
