Amos2

Judgment on Moab, Judah, and Israel

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn it back — because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

And I will send fire on Moab, and it will devour the citadels of Kerioth; and Moab will die in uproar, with a shout, with the sound of the horn.

And I will cut off the judge from her midst, and all her officials I will kill with him, says the LORD.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they rejected the instruction of the LORD and did not keep his statutes, and their lies led them astray, after which their fathers walked.

And I will send fire on Judah, and it will devour the citadels of Jerusalem.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they sold the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals;

who trample on the dust of the earth the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the humble; and a man and his father go to the same young woman, so as to profane my holy name;

and on garments taken in pledge they stretch out beside every altar, and the wine of those who were fined they drink in the house of their God.

And I myself destroyed the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of cedars and who was strong as the oaks; and I destroyed his fruit above and his roots beneath.

And I myself brought you up from the land of Egypt, and led you in the wilderness forty years, to possess the land of the Amorite.

And I raised up from your sons for prophets, and from your young men for Nazirites. Is this not so, sons of Israel? — the utterance of the LORD.

But you made the Nazirites drink wine, and on the prophets you laid a command, saying, “Do not prophesy.”

Look, I am pressing down beneath you, as a cart presses that is full of sheaves.

And refuge will perish from the swift, and the strong will not strengthen his power, and the mighty will not escape with his life.

And the one who grasps the bow will not stand, and the swift of foot will not escape, and the rider of the horse will not escape with his life.

And the stout of heart among the mighty men will flee away naked in that day — the utterance of the LORD.
