Amos1

Judgment on Israel’s Neighbors

The words of Amos, who was among the sheep breeders of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

And he said: The LORD roars from Zion, and from Jerusalem he gives his voice; and the pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel dries up.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they threshed Gilead with threshing sledges of iron.

And I will send fire into the house of Hazael, and it will devour the citadels of Ben-hadad.

And I will break the bar of Damascus, and I will cut off the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven, and the one holding the scepter from Beth-eden; and the people of Aram will go into exile to Kir, says the LORD.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they exiled a whole exile, to hand them over to Edom.

And I will send fire on the wall of Gaza, and it will devour her citadels.

And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and the one holding the scepter from Ashkelon; and I will turn my hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines will perish, says the Lord GOD.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they handed over a whole exile to Edom, and did not remember the covenant of brothers.

And I will send fire on the wall of Tyre, and it will devour her citadels.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of Edom, and for four, I will not turn it back — because he pursued his brother with the sword and destroyed his compassion, and his anger tore forever, and he kept his fury perpetually.

And I will send fire on Teman, and it will devour the citadels of Bozrah.

Thus says the LORD: For three transgressions of the sons of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn it back — because they ripped open the pregnant women of Gilead, in order to enlarge their border.

And I will kindle fire on the wall of Rabbah, and it will devour her citadels, with a shout in the day of battle, with a storm in the day of the whirlwind.

And their king will go into exile, he and his officials together, says the LORD.
