In the eighthmonth,in the secondyearof Darius,came the wordof the LORDto Zechariah,the sonof Berechiah,the sonof Iddothe prophet,saying,
The LORDhas been soredispleasedwith your fathers.
Therefore sayyou to them, Thus saysthe LORDof hosts;Turnyou to me, saysthe LORDof hosts,and I will turnto you, saysthe LORDof hosts.
Be not as your fathers,to whom the formerprophetshave cried,saying,Thus saysthe LORDof hosts;Turnyou now from your evilways,andfromyour evildoings:but they did not hear,nor listento me, saysthe LORD.
Your fathers,wherearethey? and the prophets,do they livefor ever?
But my wordsand my statutes,which I commandedmy servantsthe prophets,did they not take holdof your fathers?and they returnedand said,Like as the LORDof hoststhoughtto doto us, according to our ways,and according to our doings,so has he dealtwith us.
The Vision of the Horses
Upon the fourand twentiethdayof the eleventhmonth,whichisthe monthSebat,in the secondyearof Darius,came the wordof the LORDto Zechariah,the sonof Berechiah,the sonof Iddothe prophet,saying,
I sawby night,and look a manridingupon a redhorse,and he stoodamong the myrtle treesthatwerein the bottom;and behindhimwere thereredhorses,speckled,and white.
Then saidI, O my lord,whatarethese? And the angelthat talkedwith me saidto me, I will showyou what these be.
And the manthat stoodamong the myrtle treesansweredand said,Theseare theywhom the LORDhas sentto walkback and forth through the earth.
And they answeredthe angelof the LORDthat stoodamong the myrtle trees,and said,We have walked back and forththrough the earth,and indeed, all the earthsits still,and is at rest.
Then the angelof the LORDansweredand said,O LORDof hosts,how long will you not have mercyon Jerusalemand on the citiesof Judah,against which you have had indignationthese seventyyears?
And the LORDansweredthe angelthat talkedwith mewithgoodwordsandcomfortingwords.
So the angelthat spokewith me saidto me, Cryyou, saying,Thus saysthe LORDof hosts;I am jealousfor Jerusalemand for Zionwith a greatjealousy.
And I am verysoredispleasedwith the pagansthat areat ease:for I was but a littledispleased,and they helpedforward the affliction.
Therefore thus saysthe LORD;I am returnedto Jerusalemwith mercies:my houseshall be builtin it, saysthe LORDof hosts,and a lineshall be stretched forthupon Jerusalem.
Cryyet, saying,Thus saysthe LORDof hosts;My citiesthrough prosperityshall yet be spread abroad;and the LORDshall yet comfortZion,and shall yet chooseJerusalem.

Then lifted I upmy eyes,and saw,and look fourhorns.
And I saidto the angelthat talkedwith me, Whatbethese? And he answeredme, Thesearethe hornswhich have scatteredJudah,Israel,and Jerusalem.
And the LORDshowedme fourcarpenters.
Then said I, What come these to do? And he spoke, saying, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these have come to frighten them, to cast out the horns of the Gentiles, which lifted up their horn over the land of Judah to scatter it.
