Speaknow to Zerubbabelthe sonof Shealtiel,governorof Judah,and to Joshuathe sonof Josedech,the highpriest,and to the residueof the people,saying,
Whoisleftamong you that sawthis housein her firstglory?and how do you seeit now?is itnot in your eyesin comparisonof it as nothing?
Yet now be strong,O Zerubbabel,saysthe LORD;and be strong,O Joshua,sonof Josedech,the highpriest;and be strong,all you peopleof the land,saysthe LORD,and work:for Iamwith you, saysthe LORDof hosts:
According tothe wordthat I covenantedwith you when you cameout of Egypt,so my spiritremainsamongyou: fearnot.
For thus saysthe LORDof hosts;Yet once,itisa little while,and I will shakethe heavens,and the earth,and the sea,and the dryland;
And I will shakeall nations,and the desireof all nationsshall come:and I will fillthis housewith glory,saysthe LORDof hosts.
The silverismine, and the goldismine, saysthe LORDof hosts.
The gloryof this latterhouseshall be greater thanof the former,saysthe LORDof hosts:and in this placewill I givepeace,saysthe LORDof hosts.
Blessings for a Defiled People
In the fourand twentiethdayof the ninthmonth, in the secondyearof Darius,came the wordof the LORDbyHaggaithe prophet,saying,
Thus saysthe LORDof hosts;Asknow the priestsconcerningthe law,saying,
If onebearholyfleshin the skirtof his garment,and with his skirtdo touchbread,or pottage,or wine,or oil,or any food,shall it be holy?And the priestsansweredand said,No.
Then saidHaggai,Ifone that isuncleanby a dead bodytouchany of these, shall it be unclean?And the priestsansweredand said,It shall be unclean.
Then answeredHaggai,and said,Soisthis people,and soisthis nationbeforeme, saysthe LORD;and soisevery workof their hands;and that which they offerthereisunclean.
And now, I pray you, considerfrom this dayand upward,from beforea stonewas laidupon a stonein the templeof the LORD:
Since thosedayswere, whenonecameto a heapof twentymeasures, there werebutten:whenonecameto the pressfatto draw outfiftyvesselsout of the press,there werebuttwenty.
I struckyou with blastingand with mildewand with hailin all the laborsof your hands;yet youturnednot to me, saysthe LORD.
Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, consider it.
Is the seedyet in the barn?yes, as yet the vine,and the fig tree,and the pomegranate,and the olivetree,has not brought forth:from this daywill I blessyou.

And againthe wordof the LORDcame to Haggaiin the fourand twentiethdayof the month,saying,
Speakto Zerubbabel,governorof Judah,saying,I will shakethe heavensand the earth;
And I will overthrowthe throneof kingdoms,and I will destroythe strengthof the kingdomsof the pagans;and I will overthrowthe chariots,and those that ridein them; and the horsesand their ridersshall come down,every oneby the swordof his brother.
In that day,saysthe LORDof hosts,will I takeyou, O Zerubbabel,my servant,the sonof Shealtiel,saysthe LORD,and will makeyou as a signet:for I have chosenyou, saysthe LORDof hosts.
